Not Snake Oil?

While most of us know that most additives are just snake oil, let's use this thread for additives that actually worked.

The transmission in the LJ start to shudder between 2nd and 3rd.

A guy on one of the forums recommended Shudder Fixx. He said he's used it on dozens of vehicles and it worked instantly everytime.

The internet also had good reviews on the stuff.

So armed with the knowledge of some random guy on the internet, online reviews and the strong desire to not sink $3-$4k for a new transmission, i figured I would try it for $10.

I have to say, after adding the stuff, the shudder was gone instantly.

We'll see how long it works.

When I had fussy shifts with my AX15, someone told me to drain the regular gear oil and synchromesh would smooth it out - worked as suggested!

BTW - Redline gear oil doesn't play well with the yellow metals in the AX15 & Peugeot BA10/5...

Unfortunately it's probably bad rings, quite a few mfg's are suffering from bad rings, Honda actually had a soft recall for a flipped oil control ring on some oddessy minivans

We had that recall on our van. Got basically a new motor out of it on warrenty.

Ya, was hoping maybe carbon built up on the rings, but I think it’s just a bad motor build quality 2016 2.4L crv with 88k on it

First the OCI on it are insane, something like 10k, and it was ran low on oil for 1000s of miles, because I never checked the oil levels between changes, because well it’s a Honda, so why would I… lol

blue devil head gasket repair kept my dads Subaru running for 2 more years after it developed a head gasket failure.  It was blowing exhaust into the cooling system.  Followed the directions and it fixed it. Ran perfectly until the car rotted out

I'm always skeptical of additives to fix things.  Yea, it might work in the moment, but what happens to your motor/tranny/fill in the blank later in life?  I think in a lot of cases you're just masking a problem, and possibly causing more down the road.  Not to say I haven't done such things in my younger days on my beater vehicles.

Agreed, but I still find it to be pretty cool to see how it does work. With a seal dweller, that’s more of a “now this is your life” type situation from the point forward :rotflmao:
