NP 231 x-case questions

Are all the NP 231's the same for a I6 AX15. Basicly, can I swap one from any 4.2/4.0L with an AX15 into my '90YJ. Are the input spline counts the same? How about one out of a 4.0L Cherokee with an auto?

i believe all 231s behind ax-15s are 23 spline

if it came off a peugeot or a ax-5 i think it is 21 spline. I am not sure about autos though

From the Advance Adapters web site

"All 6 cylinder Jeeps from 1980 and later came with a 23 spline output on the transmission (except those with the piece of crap Peugeot transmission)
Late model GC's with the A518 and A500 may have a longer output shaft and will cause interference problems"

Thanks for the input. I was thinking about buying a spare 231 to swap a SYE into. That way I can just swap it out in a single day wrenchfest. BTW - any recomendations on a SYE? :D

hey I got a 231 out of my 92' 6 cyl auto. came with the jeep. good for sye, the cast tail stock piece is cracked. I'll take a 100 for it, I was going to sye it but I bought one all together.
