The jeep is starting a little slow lately and with the prospect of a winch in the near future I'm thinking about going to an optima. Does anybody have any experience with them.

I'm looking for any feedback, positive or negative.

Thanks

Never leave home with out my Yellow top...

best part... no memory when you run it dry... (no stupid headlight buzzer)

Also, with my YJ, with as much bouncing and banging I do off road, you don't have to worry about the hanging plates inside a normal battery.

Optima, no water, mount any location, spiral wound plates, killer cranking, and no memory...

at the risk of sounding ignorant

What does no memory mean :?:  :?:

I dont really know that much about how it works, hence why I'm asking for the info. But it looks like my original plan is being supported :D

I like my red top just fine....great cranking power, has done great every time I winch, and doesn't break a sweat, even when it's 105* out and i'm wheeling.....no heat deformation on the case or anything. It also runs my electric compressor, KCs, rock lights, etc. with no issues. HTH

no memory,,,

A regular battery when you let it go completely dead and then recharge it, will not take as much of a charge. Also that type a battery, if completely drained can damage the battery so that it will never be as strong and will limit it's life.

The optima does not do that, being it uses a Gel and lead reaction as opposed to a water/acid and lead. You can run it dead, and recharge (carefully) with no ill effects.

I'm still running the WalMart motorcycle battery that came with the JEEP. Dang! The thing is 3 or 4 years old. I do belive I will replace it with an Optima when the time comes.

Yes. What Keven said. I have a red top and no problems. Except when they die they die. No warning turn the key off dead.

Thanks guys I was planning on getting one but I figured I'd check and see what the general consensous was.

Looks like my next paycheck is taking a nice little dent.

I've always ran a standard style battery, no problems yet. A friend of mine didn't have a battery hold down and we would periodically have to put his battery back in the tray. All it was was a standard sealed cell battery. It was a F150 4x4
