hey I was flipping through quadratec this past weekend and I was looking at lockers and I saw this new OX locker. They even offfer it in a super 35 kit and its a heck of a lot cheaper than an ARB setup. Like an ARB it has a line that runs into the diff housing but its not the flimsly little blue hose its a steel braided cable with a switch. No air compressors or anything like that. I was wondering how those work and if anyone has one

Got one, has worked great - for me. I wouldn't buy another one though, nor would I recommend them to anyone. If you want a switchable locker go with the tried and true ARB. The Ox locker has a good design behind it and seems like it solves alot of problems that ARB has but there have been many people who have had issues with it. But like I said mine works great and has held up to my 36's fine (Ox only recommends a 33 in tire). I just wouldn't buy another.

I had one in my old jeep.. I had problems with the original cable which has now been upgraded and solved. I busted one of the pins right through that strong diff cage.. OX sent me another one without any hassle.. I loved it at the time.. had a few problems but the "original' company always stood by their product. Don't know how the new company is...

I'm now running ARB front and rear... don't think I would ever go back to OX... I know a few guys from other clubs that have been running OX's (or is that Oxen) for a few years now and have never had any problems with them.

I say.. save your money and go with ARB....

if OX isnt that good.....does that count the super 35 kit?

i hate to make a new post when i can just resurect the dead.....

as for the OX, I now read that the new company in Florida that bought them is doing a great deal of restructuring.  And the product they make now is actually doing really well.  That is why q-tech and 4wd now have them back with a vengeance.  Which is the 3 rd time.

So, in essence, they are making a good come back....  :rotflmao:

as for the question about the Dana 35...  I love it when I read people defend their Dana 35, then in 6 months they bitch about how they were wrong and they snapped a shaft.

Dana 35 can be modified to do quick well, and as long as you don't go over a 33" tire, it can hold up.  However even the super 35 kit(shafts)  does not help with the other problems of the Dana 35. Weaker tubes/ housing, that can twist, bend and even allow the ring gear to pull away from the pinion causing major failure.

type in Dana 35 in any forum and you will love what you read...

Read the different boards in the area.  Juan, who is on most of the boards, usually has a D44 for around $450 with 3.55s.  8.8s are usually in the junkyards, same with the other axles.

If you haven't been to the other club boards here are some of them.

If for no other reason than to check out their 4-sale sections.

Sidriptide has a XJ D44 for sale.

Final word on OX Locker, I've owned one (D30) from the beginning  The simplicity of this locker is its greatest feature. The carrier is about 10 parts and comes un-assembled. The diff cover is machined from a solid piece of steel! The cover also has a drain for quick fluid changes. The company will replace anything that breaks. I have probably broke 10 front axles, including the intermidate axle, and the OX is prefectly fine. I've replaced the cable a couple of times, mostly because it's gotten crushed in the front springs. I've fixed this problem with creative use of zip ties  The only thing that's more reliable on my jeep is my Ford 8.8 which is bullet proof.
