I think you get the idea   :rotflmao:

Go 2.5" less money to spend now (SYE etc) and then down the road, you can use the same springs for spring over... unlike me who would have to go out and buy all new springs....

Remember, BDS springs in YJ's are kick A$$  :grinyes:

Here's a '90 with a cheap 4" lift from Rusty's Off Road ($410 for everything including shocks  http://www.rustysoffroad.com/ ).  Fit's 33x12.50s with no problem.  No SYE (yet).

My old YJ with 4" Rustys lift, T-case drop, needed either some adjustment in the pinion angle or an SYE  and 32" tires

nice thanks guys im pretty set on a 4" lift and 32's will come soon after.  so what brands should i be looking at?  someone mentioned BDS where can i find them?

thanks adn keep em coming,

You can also do a search over at JU....  when I was looking to get springs for my YJ, I searched high and low for what people thought was the best.

As for what brand...  everything I read said BDS, and I have loved mine since day one.

BDS Site:

I have installed a few YJ lifts, and I will tell you.  They are all the same.  The hardware is basic, and the nuts and bolts are all just regular stuff.  So then if they are all the same, which lift do you go with?  You need to base it on 2 things.

Springs,
Warranty.

That is why I went BDS, they have a great double military wrap spring, and the best warranty out there...  No fine print, cover all.
This unique warranty proves our commitment to the quality and reliability of every product we make.

If you are the original purchaser of any BDS product and it breaks, we will give you a new part. Period.

Rubicon express also has a great spring, but the warranty is nothing, and the customer service can be a pain depending on which day you catch them.

All other are OK, but usually you will read that the are a rougher ride.  Like Superlift, ok lift, but rides harder than most other brands so that can really suck when you are trying to save your kidneys.

By the way, the best brand is Alcon Springs, but they cost $$$  so within a budget, go BDS or RE.

AS for where to buy, there is a place here in CT, or you can email BDS.  The place in CT is good, however I forget their name, XJMark or Ron should know. (Driving Image???)

Lastly, if you want a few tricks of the trade when it comes to YJ, feel free to get a hold of me... I have a few things that will help you out along the way.

(example, if they let you, order the kit without BDS shocks, Doetsch Tech shocks are cheaper and softer riding, and even though the BDS kit will say 3.5, it will give you 4"+.)

What about a 2.5'' lift with a 1'' body lift and 33s.  That way you probably won't have to drop the transfer case.  But if you go with a 4" lift you still need to get 33s, they're 1'' cooler than 32s. :grinyes:

actually I have gotten BDS leaf replaced from sag/loss of arch.

also got em replaced due to being bent.  somenthing to due with a SOA application and no axle wrap bars

I'll take this opportunity to post a pic of my 4" Rough Country lift (a little more than that, because I already had extended lift shackles) ... just finished installing it today ... sitting on the ground with 35"s under it ... 2" body lift still to come ...

looks good!! cant wait to be riding high...not soon enough.  did you have to use the drop pitman arm?  some say you do others say not to im a little lost.  also did you use a tcase drop or an sye?

right now ... it's still sitting there in the garage, not yet driveable, because the steering isn't hooked up ... I got the stock pitman arm about half way off ... and then I snapped Autozone's loaner puller.  :(

Hopefully I'm going to be able to borrow another puller tommorow and get the job finished.  I do plan to install the drop pitman arm.

I have not installed the transfer case drop, and don't plan to.  I have a sye sitting in the box ready to go in (hopefully on Tuesday, after I finish hooking up the steering, and do the body lift), but my dana 44 reear has had the yoke cocked a little bit, which makes the drive shaft angle a little less severe than it would have been with the stock d35 ... so it should be street driveable as it is now.

I've still got the tcase drop blocks from my lift kit, if anybody needs 'em.

Pat - I added my 4" lift to the 1.5" shackles I already had.  The Rusty's lift included degree shims on the springs.  I was told by several alignment shops that I didn't need a dropped pitman arm on a YJ or CJ until 6"+ (Definitely needed on a TJwith 3.5"+).  I bought one just in case but never installed it.  Also - with 4+" of lift - I barely get very minor vibrations without a SYE kit.  I do have the 1" T-Case drop.

Frank is correct, no need for a drop pitman arm, unless you want bump steer...  :grinyes:

funny thing is, almost all kits come with them..  even TJ 3" kits... which most people sell on Ebay.

Mark, I was doing some reading about your jumping hoop problem...  from what I gather, they are just being more careful with what they warrrenty...  no more just replacing because you say it is bad... they want you to have the springs tested...  being usually 1 spring sags, and the other can not support the weight it self...  So for a couple bucks, they will test is at a spring shop and let you know, 1,  both, etc....

Even with a TJ a drop pitman arm is not needed untill about six inches.

If i remember correctly from when i was selling BDS, BDS asks that you make your claim when you have a pair of failed springs (sagging)... they will not warrentee just one anymore. They do not have to be tested, rather just not normal. If you send the spring back and one is still at the orginal spring hieght they will send you back the springs, or charge you to replace the damaged spring. If found that both springs have sagged they will replace them for free. So from what i remember is they do the testing. All failures HAVE to go back to the selling dealer and the selling dealer can also be found responsible for the warrentee of that item if the selling deal accepted those items as warrenteed items when they are not.

So their warrentee is still very good, but a little more complicated to insure that people aren't just replaceing thier springs every year or so.

I'm getting ready to do my lift in a few weeks and I hope you guys don't mind if I post up any problems I run into.  I learned allot just from reading this thread!
