Need a new fuel tank. Plastic is a few more bucks and says there is less of a condensation problem, but I've talked to people that have used plastic and they tell me they had terrible condensation problems.
So any opinions? Steel or plastic.

Congrat's - you're finally fixing the tank (no more gas fumes on the trail!) .  Plastic tanks have an advantage - they don't dent, and sometimes hold more fuel!  Smith's 4x4 in Franklin CT has a few tanks in stock.

Well I'm not actually going to install it....I just want to own a new one. :mad02:

Plastic tank is lighter and thus easier to install.

As for condensation.  that's due to temperature changes.  Plastic is more insulative.  So it's less likely to have the temperature swings causing condensation.  The new ethanol containing gas is more likely to be a factor for water in the gas than the material of the tank.  Ethanol is hydroscopic, it attracts moisture.

Most new cars are running plastic tanks, they can't be all wrong.

Don't forget Karl, the YJ and TJ all have had plastic, so there has to be some reason for the switch...  ($$$$$$)  :grinyes:

plastic doesn't dent but it sure does bend! I hit mine on a rock once and popped the fuel pump out the top..
same thing happen to me plus i acutally bent the fuel pump too

steel bends too, if you pushed a plastic tank enough to pop out the fuel pump, a steel tank would have been trashed.  They don't pop back.  I have a 19 gallon tank on my cherokee after one of the chicken runs.
