im buying a 02 wrangler already built for wheeling, im a little new to all this, and i was reading up on jeepsunlimited about axles, and it seems like everyone was bashing the D30, even a built one. the new wrangler im getting has *Dana 30 front axle--Locked with Arb air locker geared to 488
*Dana 44 rear axle--Locked with ARB air locker geared to 488,*Rubicon Express 4.5" Super Flex Lift w" 1.5" coilspacers in front
*Rubicon Express monotube shocks
*Sky Jacker heavy duty tie-rod
*trailmaster steering dampner
*TK Sliders in rear
* AA SYE
*Advance Adapters short shaft kit
*Tom Woods long travel CV driveshaft
with 35" tires,

what do you guys recommend for me as i will take this to paragon in the comming month or two, and will want to wheel this not to the extreme's but pretty hard, but also want to keep it as a daily driver.

do you guys recommend doing a 44 in the front with the ARB or what?

any input will be appreciated.

exactly, you are new to 4 wheeling. take your time to learn

don't believe everything you read on an internet forum, there are alot of guys who have alot of opinions that aren't entirely correct.

have fun

As the others here are saying, i can't see doing anything to that rig except a good inpsection of everything, swapping out the motor oil and diff fluids, and greasing all grease points. Basically give it a good servicing so you know what you're starting off with. Check over all suspension mounting bolts, steering stuff, etc. to make sure nothing is loose. Re-Torque all the lug nuts. Anyway....you get the point. Service it up, give it a good once over, and then start wheeling it. Take it easy at first. Do the easy trails for the first 4 or 5 runs. Really get a feel for the new rig before you jump into the harder stuff.

1st to answer your question, the Dana 30 is somewhat a decent axle, for anything over a 35 that is when you should think about upgrading to something bigger. One way of making it a little stronger is by purchasing chromoly axle shafts for the d30.

2nd. Like the others said get some simple wheeling time in before you go all out. The reason is to get to know your vehicle and how things react. Similiar to when you would bring your Subaru (if you did) to the track, the first coming times around (or down the quarter) your not going to be that good, but hte more times you go around the better you will get. Remember this is your life and others that you have control of.

3.. PICTURES

thanx alot guys, you guys seem alot more civil then guys on other forums. i definately am going to check everything when i get it home, and definately going to wheel it very lightly the first few times i go. i didnt plan on taking it over a mountain the first time. i was just curious because of what other people were saying, im new to this and the last couple weeks (ive been in between jobs) so ive been reading as much as possible on this stuff, and they were bashing the heck out of the D30.

i promise ill have pics as soon as its in my driveway.
thanx guys :D

take a look at the joints in the control arms... check to see if they are extremely loose, could be a sign of a bad control arm. The upper arms if they are definitly Super Flex arms are rebuildable but check to see if proper maintance has been done on them such as greasing.

It was probably wheeled before, that is a given, but check the undercarriage for major dents or scraps. Particulary on the oil Pan and Tranny pan (if it is Auto).

Take it up to speed (highway) and check for major vibrations, try to hit some bumps. It is a highly modified suspension (at least from stock) and it will be a little bumpy and such, but look for major vibrations and death wobble.

Good luck and get us those pics, then join the Club

will do. i know the guy wheeled it once, hes selling it because he built it and cant wheel it because of 2 jobs, he even showed me pics from when he went, i did look underneath pretty good and everything was still shining or in "new" condition and didnt see anything bad. everything was just completed in january.

definately will have pics up, and im definately going to join the club, how do i join?

here is the link as to how.. don't forget you have to send me $100 for a backwards refferal fee
