My yj will start up fine, run great for a half hour, then randomly at stop lights or when coming off the highway it will stall.  It then becomes very difficult to start so i usually give it 2 min then pump twice, floor it and turn it over adn it will start up fine again.  anyone have any ideas why/how this might be happening?

I thought it was maybe a carb seeing as it is very old but I just had some work done to it when i bought the jeep this summer.

89 yj, 4.2L, 5 speed

thanks,
Pat

Most mechanical items would not be intermittant.  Like fuel pump or carburetor.  It sounds more likely to be electrical.  Check for chaffed wires, ignition probs etc.

:mad:those old dodge one barrel carbs were defenitly junk. :disagree:if you look at them wrong,
they start to choke :rotflmao:

Pat - Ill check it out this weekend if you come to get the hardtop.  I have some experience with the stock carb (I may even have a spare on the shelf!)
