I installed a 3.5" lift on my 95 Cherokee a while back. Since then when I first get on the gas or just let off the rear driveshaft makes a groaning noise. I doesn't vibrate at any speed but I think I may need a SYE and a new driveshaft. Or should I check other things out???

BTW auto, 231, 31"tires

Thanks

"Groaning" noises are usually related to differential concerns.  Lifts cause higher driveline angles and result in lack of oil to the front pinion bearings.

you can also say  that the ujoint is now running on a new plane and may no longer be good. the bearings wear in to one spot

Seen a lot higher lifted trucks that never have a problem with that.

The bearings should not wear a single area down that much unless they ran out of grease.

cus  every rig gets all of the best  maintenace

Thanks, I'll change out the u-joints first.  Sometime this week.

retork your nuts & bolts to spect. use a slanted shim in the back between axle and springs and put in a transfercase lowering kit ??????????????????????????????????????

i had this happen with my xj, turned out to be a pinion bearing and a shop qupted me something like $600 to fix it.....
better off just picking up a new rear axel from someone.

another option is that it may e your tires out of balance.  I recently threw a wheel weight in the woods and it made my rear tire hum and kinda groan around 50 mph.

goodluck,  i hope its something simple

once you get a bearing noise in the diff. it usually takes out all the bearings,(tiny silver particulates in the oil doesnt mean you found a silver mine).  if that turns out to be the problem, dont get cheap on replacing bearings,it all has to come apart anyway. pete
