Hey guys, seeing as winter is about to make way for spring, which eventiually means summer i am planning on removing my doors from my XJ. Is there any advice on this project, also is there the possibility of making them quick disconnect?
anyone with expereince on his/her problems and successes would be appreci.ated

where are you located if you want to swing over i can give you a hand its real easy and you can see the set up on mine

I might get flamed for saying this, but.....

make sure you put the doors on before driving on the street.  It is TECHNICALLY illegal.

actually eric i spent many hours reserching this and it is totally legal if you meet certain criteria
you must maintain all stock mirror locations(if you have a rearview one on both doors then you must have them in these locations when the doors are off)

sthe second requirment all cherokees meet there must be a rise in the floor where it meets the door to prevent objects from rolling out
(disclaimer: the above info applies only in the state of connecticut

Hmm, last I knew, and in many states, it's illegal to remove the doors, if they were not designed to do so.  I'll have to ask around and look around to verify my statement.  If you have some info to verify yours, I'd like to see it.  I'd love to take the doors off.

One shop owner made the remark, that that is why the Wranglers have nuts on the doors.  They were not designed to be removed.  The last vehicle designed and sold without doors was the CJ, the soft top and doors were an option.

Same goes for Windshields.  If they weren't designed that way, then they aren't supposed to be down.

Now having said this, it is evident, that jeep knew that their buyers would want these functions, so they made them easy to modify.

I got nailed for no "doors" on my last XJ.  Cop only cared that I had no side view mirror.  Put on a side view mirror and go!!  Easiest way to remove them.  Open door/Back into tree.

Think Im gonna do a set of 'cut' doors for myself.......doors 'off' just dosent give me wood. :disagree:

I did that about 2 years ago.  Came out pretty good.  Took the sawzall and wacked the door off at the top, folded it over welded it to the inside, and bingo half doors.

Don't the interior lights come on when the front doors of an XJ are open?  I'm pretty sure that both of mine do.  How do you fix that?  I am planning on going to some Q form kick panel speakers as well.  So that I can still have some tunes while going doorless.  This would make disconnecting the wires behind the kick panels very difficult on some "quick disconnect" doors.  Is there any way to make the power accessory wires to the doors quick disconnect closer to the doors themselves so that I wouldn't have to go behind the kick panels every time I remove the doors?  Thanks!

about the doors, yes you need side view mirrors, and you could also make some simple tube doors. I found some on another forum.......

another option is making 1/2 doors. just find a junkyard jeep and use the doors from that.  Also about the lights, as i have read, after you disconnect the wire harness the light go off. here is a discusion on no doors from that other forum. http://www.nagca.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12860&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
hope some of this helps
