I moved my brakeline about a half and inch today while installing detours drop-kicks and seemingly as soon as i touched it it started seeping fluid.  Am I right to assume taht the only way to repair this is to buy a few lengths of universal 3/16" brake line and try to bend it myself?  its a long freaking way from the master cylinder to the rear axel

any advice or anything i should know before i do this?

thanks,

pat

Pat - which line is it?  Is it the hard line from the brake cylinder to the block on the axle? or is it the soft line from the block on the axle to the hardline on the frame?  Or - is it the hardline from the rear of the frame to the master cylinder?

if it is the hard line from the back to the front, you try and find the first good spot where you can cut and flare in a union. (double flare) Then just bend out your new line to where you need to go.  Frame mount for the rear rubber line)  If you are doing Detours bars it is probably the spot right after the t-case skid where it plastic clamps to the frame and you have to slide the plate in.  Pull the t-case skid and flair in a coupling in the middle.  If you find that it is cooked and rusted all the way....  get bending....

pre-bend with a coat hanger, to form the template.  (thanks Bruce)

thanks for teh advice guys.  Its the hard line going from teh master cylinder to just above the rear axel.  If it was the soft line id have ordered stainless already and would have been done with it  :grinyes:........unfortunately its not so i cant  :disagree:...... oh well im gonna try the dealership and see waht they say then im going to try taking it out adn bringing it to a guy here in branford taht bends up hydraulic lines for a friends construction equipment.  last ditch effort will be me bending up the line myself.  Only thing is that im gonna have to get a few different lengths of line as ive never seen a 12' piece in any parts store lol.

ill let u knwo what happens

thanks,
pat

they have it out back, it is in rolls and you cut what you need, then flare it.

Flaring is real easy, even though most people are scared of it.  Rent the tool from Auto Zone and have it done and new in a few hours

jeeps gonna have to wait till sunday i have to work 10-12 tomorrow so i wont be around till then.  After further examining the situation ive decided to just replace about 4 ft of the line thats located along the frame rail.  the front ( near M.C.) looks to be in good shape as well as teh rear.

thanks for the offers though :)  detours the sliders look sick.  thanks again

well none of my fittings leaed which means my flairs held up so taht's good but as soon as i got all of that patched up and started to clean i the damn line sprung another leak another foot past where I replaced.  damn frame rail was hiding another one of those clips.  the line rtted away at all four clips.  tomorrow il replace taht part too and be done with it.

hehe yea i hope so ( knocks on wood) but i actually have to bend the line this time.  gonna try by hand and see how it goes cause ii dont ahve a bender.  ill make it work though

Hey Pat if your back in CT there is a hand bender at my house if you need it otherwise have pickle or scrappy get something for you.

I forgot you had the YJ now, hows it lookin'? I know the dropkicks add a lot to it and trust me they work mint in the places we used to go too :grinyes:
