Rollbar on Fiberglass body

I have a 74 CJ5 that we just put a fiberglass body on. Now comes the rollbar. I obviously dont want to go to the fenders like you can with the metal bodies. I want to put a full rollcage and need to know where the best position would be. Also what size pipe and how thick is recommended? Thanks alot

no it was a used body. Where can you get the frame extenders? Also where would you attach it in the front? go through the floor and to the frame?

i went right to the frame with mine... i can get you some pics in a day or 2....

basically what i added is circled below in yellow, I also 'studded' up from the frame with a smaller pipe that allowed me to slip the cage down over and bolt it in (in case it ever needs to be removed). if you do this make sure the upper part of the cage is larger than your studs so they don't fill with water and crap, kinda like an umbrella ;)

I wasn't worried about a back seat and anticipated putting in 4pt harnesses so the cross bar actually was very welcomed by me...

In the back did you bolt your standard rollcage to the fenders and then weld in your pipe to got to the frame or is it just sitting on top and only held up by the braces? I would like to put in a back seat. I wonder how that would work...

i don't have it bolted to the body at all... the portion sitting on the body is doing just that...
since the body moves around a little from the frame and cage i figured i'd be better off not bolting them together to avoid cracks....

I didn't have a backseat, but i'm sure if you wanted to get a little fancier you could bend the bars to route them better... i was trying to create the strongest design i could since this is the scariest vehicle i've ever driven!

but i love it ;)

If your still looking on how to do it, drop me a email...  jeepjunkie69@yahoo.com
I just flipped my 73 CJ-5 on the road three times and mine held up unbeleiveable great...with the glass tub...it saved my life.
