After driving daily and turning up the music so that I wouldn't have to listen to my tranny. I figured enough is enough maybe if I give my tranny a treat it will shut up for a little while (kind of like giving a dog a bone to stop barking) I decided to email the Royal Purple company to ask which of there "magical" oils would work best in my AX-15 Manual Transmission. I first told them that my manual said to put GL-5 in it and I KNOW that it is a misprint from everyones posts that I so carefully read. So here is the email:
"Kyle,
You must have an early 1997 AX-15 which still spec'd the API GL5 rated 75W90.
This would be our RP MaxGear 75W90
Since your Owner's Manual which came with the vehicle spec's a GL5 that is what I would use.
Sometime in 1997, Jeep changed to an API GL3 rated 75W90 for the AX-15.
A GL3 rated oil does not contain any EP additives and we recommend using our RP 10W40 Motor Oil."
Motor oil
So heres the final question to the folks that know Jeeps the best IMO. Have any of you used Royal Purple? Redline? Synchromax? Good 'ol Coastal from the Zone? What have been your experiences? Just trying to keep the transmission down to a low rumble instead of a loud screaming.
