Scored a tranny for the YJ.  This will be my first time swapping a tranny in my jeep and I'm not that mechanially knowledgeable but bought the haynes manual.  I pushed it in the garage and jacked it up tonight.  Planning on starting the swap tommaro after work.  Any advise or tips before I start?

i'd  remove the trans pan tonite and the t case drain plug so that your not getting covered in that crap tomorrow.spray everything you can including cooler line fittings and especially crossmember bolts LIBERALLY with pb blast tonite, then again in the morning, again in the afternoon, and again after dinner.other than that all i can say is have a good floor jack, follow the book, mark anything your unsure of,use common sense, and above all be safe.

One thing to keep in mind when putting the new tranny in. Be sure that the torque converter is fullt seated into the front of the tranny. You need to turn it by hand while apllying light pressure to the front. It will seat onto a few sets of splines. If it isn't sitting all the way in, you can wreck the whole tranny when bolting it all together.

It will also drive you nuts.  Did that exact thing.  Screwed around trying to get it aligned for a while, finally pulled it back down, spun the converter and then it went itn like butter.

Get a jar of the anti-seize from napa.  8 or 16oz will last a long time.  Coat every bolt with it.  If you have to change anything in there a second time.  Everything will come off easily.

The stuff is really hard to wipe off so coat sparingly, you don't need much anyway.

It really works, I pulled all the lift suspension off my old cherokee in 4 hours since I had used it when I put my lift in 4 years before.

OK first night I snapped both my 3/8 rachets and was to late to go buy more so today went and got 1/2" set and almost got it out.  One question is how and from which angle can a person with big hands get to the bolt that holds the tranny filler tube.  Must have looked crazy to my neighbors trying to get it then my light popped so I called it a night.  All I have is this bolts and 2 more that I broke loose but left till I get this one out.  THANKS.

I've had that problem myself.

either 2-3 foot extension and swivel or ratchet wrench.  I can't remember what I used but I think it was the extension.

Get s-k ratchets.  They hold up well.  I usually get craftsmen however I have not heard good things lately.  I need to get two so I may go the s-k route.

sounds like your getting there.  I tend to go through craftsman ratchets like water. but they keep replaceing them so I can't complain too much.  I would deffinitly get a set fo swivel sockets they are great for bell housing bolts.

Didn't get a chance to work on last night but got it out today.  Eating some lunch then on to putting the new one in. Again thanks for all the advise.
