I really want to put 31 inch tires on my new Rubicon but i do not know if they will fit without a lift. I am a broke college student and can't spend the money on a lift.

Also what do I need to get out on the trails with you guys? Do you have to have these things that ARB sells called "Lockers"? What are they?

Thank you for your help

Alex

heya

31's should fit with out a lift...  and for the lockers,  they lock the rear axle so both tires will spin and give you more traction.. but arb lockers are expensive and not easy to install

if you do a little research you'll find other effective ways to improve performance while keepeing cost down  :beerchug:

Alex,

Your Rubi comes from the factory with 31" tires and "Lockers" both front and rear.  So no need to spend any money!

Alex if you have a brand new Rubicon,  you should already be sitting on 31" MT/Rs and already have Lockers.

If you still want put a lift,  the most economical way to go about it is a 2" BB (Budget Boost).  Especially for broke college students.

I just ran out of class to check my tire size. They are not 31s they say something like 245/75r16. My friend says they aren't 31s becuase her tires on her wrangler says 31x10x15??

Uggh what am i getting myself into?

Thanks again

Alex

HI Rubichick,

The best place to start would be to take your new Rubicon out to play with us this Saturday.

Just wheel your jeep stock ... hanging around with this great crew...chatting and watching others is the best place to start.

That's to bad....This upcoming run is the place where I went on my first run with this club. Hubby and I had a blast and now I'm gonna go back and try some of those tough obstacles that I thought were crazy dangerous.

If you test drive the Miata on Saturday, you'll be able to tow the Jeep with it....

245-75-16 is the stock tire size.  It's a metric measurement.  The 31x10.5x15 is an english measurement.  31" tall, 10.5 wide at it's widest point and a 15 inch rim.

Your tires by the english measurment system would be  approximatley 30.5x9.6x16.  As you can see, 31" tires are only 1/2 inch taller.  1/2" tire height is meaningless, your driving skill means much more than that.

Practice with your rubicon as it is, lockers and 245's driven well can embarass taller trucks with worse drivers.  A simple tire change would be 235-85-16, slightly narrower and slightly taller.  You should be able to use them on your current rims too.

We all had to learn on something, most of what we learned on is not as capable as your truck is.  After some wheeling, you'll see where you need to improve your truck.  A 2" budget boost might get you to 33's or 235-85-16 (32x9.25x16)

If you measure your tires, they will never exactly match those measurements, they are just it's size, different brands can vary by ~.25"-.5"

wheel it stock.(hell i had 215 75 15 for the first couple of month). see what other people are using and u'll get a good idea of what you will want to do to your jeep.

Start slow and have a good time.  You don't need much other than some items like a tow strap and and some safety gear.  We all take care of each other on the trail.  What I like about this hobby is that you can always learn something from someone else and Jeepers are GOOD PEOPLE! :grinyes:

All you have to do with a Rubicon is SHOW UP AND HAVE A GOOD TIME!
