As I get more into the less is more approach to the YJ - I want to get rid of the 400 wat amp and alpine system.......... that said what are you guys running for head-units that provide good sound (drive a pair of Thor speakers and sound bar), but does not take up a lot of space?

Anyone looking for an amp and Alpine head unit with detachable face?

as far as a head unit, the Alpines are nice, does yours not have any power to run the speakers and thus you use the amp? I was tired of all my units skipping in my bumpy ass YJ so I got rid of my Alpine, Clarion and Old Sony and got a newer Sony that has ESP... Instead of slipping the disc through a slot like on most units, this one ejects a tray like a computer and you click the cd into it. Then it also has a buffer to prevent skips... shortly after buying that, I got an IPod and have not put a CD in it since...

When we do your lift, we can take a look, the Amp will actually be pretty good if you have nice speakers and it is a 4 channel...

have all your parts in? when do you want to do your lift....

My XJ still has the factory am/fm-nothing radio. Sucks to be up in the mountains and one channel comes in. Wouldn't you know it, the one channel is a RAP station!!!  Bastages!

I have had great luck with Pioneer head units over the years even though they seem to be the first choice of radio thieves. My Suburban came with a blaupunkt/ten disc. Not impressed at all. :|

As far as speakers, Infinity is my first choice. lows to highs, it's covered. They are crisp in the highs, and the kappa perfects cover the lows. My lincoln has the factory head unit and front door speakers, 6" infinity 2 ways in the rear, and 2 10" kappas pushed by a 600 watt amp and sound like a champ and will leave you saying "what did you say?". I'm no expert on stereos, but this is what I have found to work for me.
I'm sold on Pioneer and Infinity.

I'm unfortunatley gonna be stuck with my stock sound for a while I spent all my cash on the lift tires wheels etc etc
I atleast have the 7 speaker factory system with sub which is nowhere near loud enough for me but will have to do for now unless I but used

I'm have my 2nd Blaupunkt in my TJ, running to 2 - 4x6 Blaupunkt's in the front and 2 Sony Xplods in the sound bar, with a Bazooka tube in the way back.

But just like DaBrode said, as soon as i wired in my MP3 player, I couldn't tell you the last time I put a cd in the player.

i agree, I have a Pioneer that plays MP3s, CDs, CDRs, WMVs. A lot cheaper to buy one unit than to buy a head unit plus a mp3 player. I can fit about 200 songs on one CD and that is plenty. i do however have the stock stereo in my rubicon because it came with the 7 speaker system including the sub, sounds good enough for me. In the past i had a 300 watt amp powering one 12 inch DVC sub. Infinity 6s all around with two tweeters with crossovers all powered by a Pioneer head. sounded great.
