Squeaking Creaking XJ Leaf Springs??

I have the RE 2.5" AAL for lifting the rear of my XJ. Just recently I've been hearing a a ton of loud Squeeking and Creeking from the rear. I wasn't sure what it was until I sprayed between the leafs with PB. The squeeking stopped completely, so that's how I narrowed it to the leaf springs.

Other than buying a new Spring Pack, what would be a more permanent fix instead of spraying the leafs every few days?

I have heard of people putting a teflon or some kind of paper thingy between the leaves to stop this.  Or just buy the gallon jug od WD and a little spray bottle.  Bull.

My leafs used to creak pretty loudly once in a while. I chased it down to the plastic pads at the end of each leaf.
I would put the jeep on tall jack stands, and let the axle drop down. This seperates the leafs, and would give each pad a shot of lithiun grease. worked pretty well.
But, the flipside of this is the argument that the grease would attract dirt and wear the springs. After a few years of doing this, I didn't see any excessive-than-normal wear in those areas.
Since then, I got rid of the leafs alltogether.

When I lifted my XJ, I rebuilt a set of rear springs out of an 89.  I went to Hartford Spring and picked up a  new set of pads.  They are really expensive though!  I think I paid a dollar a piece! :grinyes:  Let me know if you want me to pick some up for you next week.

If you keep greasing them, you'll just attract dirt and it will just get worse!

of course this would work also :)

@Thanks for the offer, but I'm near there and I can pick them up.

@xjmark, thanks for the tip on drooping the axle to get in between the leafs.

My next question is about the clamps or clips. I read that some people don't run the clips at all with no problems PLUS they get better articulation? Is that true?

When you go to Hartford spring just pick up a set of new set of leaf bands.  I think thats what they are called.  Anyway the add a leaf I got from Rustys only had two but the stock springs had two on each spring pack.  So I just picked up two more at Hartford spring.  I think they were only 2 or 3 dollars each.

For a daily driver I would put them back on.

I went with the Clayton Offroad double triangulated long arm 4 link on my rig. Already had the front long arms for a couple of years.
The rear suspension is a full weld on conversion to coils.
It's getting there, but not done yet.
