Yep-I'm quite the mechanic.   I just bought my Monroe steering stabilizer to replace my factory one.  Question is- I think I heard the bolt is tapered.  Can I do the change out with basic hand tools or will this tapered bolt need a "special" tool? Thanks again......Rick

Rick,

At pitman arm puller will work getting the bolt out.

Here's a good write-up.

you should be able to do it with normal hand tools and a couple good hammers.

Tap either side of the eye where the tapered bolt goes in after removing the nut and it should pop right out.  may take a couple wacks, but that's how I remove the steering knuckles from their tapered bolts, works the same for the steering linkages which are tapered bolts also.  They usually pop right out by the 2nd or third whack.

Thanks guys.....   I tried the old wack job and the taper popped out...all went well.  The factory one is quite small compared to the Monroe one I put on....and only 32 bucks.  Only cheap thing about the Monroe was that it did not come with a boot....

I stoped by the 4X4 Shop on Hartford Road (Manchester) for the first time and he gave me the boot for free....  Small shop but he seems like a good dude...   Thanks again....
