After lifting the YJ - the steering wheel is off by around 90 degrees? How did this happen, and what is the fix? I do not care about how it looks, but the turn signal are a bit skrewed up....and I wonder if there are any other negative effects.

Thanks,

I believe you were instructed to get an alignment ASAP.  That will definately correct it.  There is a way to do it by yourself, but that would take away motivation to get an alignment.

Sorry, Don't eat me.

Damn, that guy's BIG!!!

Easy Donny, It's not nice to poke the bear!!!!

The only instruction I received outside of "good luck getting home in the "VIB-A-TRON" - and don't try and go to fast"  :mad02:  .... was with regard to checking on hardware and moving the shifter boot.......... Don't get me wrong, I am very happy with the lift, and hope to have a SYE and TW CV DS in place by the end of the weekend.

I did wuss out and toss the front track bar back on to help with day to day driving - and will get the alignment done soon.

After that I guess I'll need some skid plate work - and then think about gears/axles..... what have I started?

Thanks again to all that helped with the lift.

an alignment is a good thing anyway, however being you have a YJ, you really dont need one unless you needed one prior to the lift.

The alignment on a YJ will not adjust Camber (cant) or Caster...  so that leaves toe...  being we never touched the tie rod, your toe should not be affected...  however your steering wheel would have been being we raised the Jeep.  So as Steve said, adjust the sleeve on the Drag link. (is the bar that connects to the steering box)  and this will allow you to put the steering wheel back where you like it.

As for the Track Bar, did you try tighening the shackle bolts prior to putting it back on?  Being I left them looser, that will give you a softer ride, better flex, however it will also make the suspention more loose on the road...  So loose shackles are great, but if you felt uncomforatable I did mention about going a bit tighter...

also there is this available... I have it, it does work, but I stopped tightining it being I out grew my track bar... :rotflmao:

Telscoping_Track_Bar_2.jpg

Track bars are necessary to keep the springs and axle from shifting from side to side.  This helps stabilize the vehicle which in turn is one of the reasons why the (YJ) Wranglers handled so much better on the street than the older CJ's did. This same track bar also limited axle articulation in off-road usage. R.T.I. numbers indicate an increase of 31% when the track bar is disconnected.
One of the major design flaws in any (YJ) Wrangler lift kit is the riser brackets the spring manufacturers provide with each lift kit. The track bar and the drag link must be parallel with each other or bump steer will occur.

The real and proper solution would be to provide a longer track bar with all lift kits sold.  Since no lift manufacturers will address the problem properly, we did! We are proud to introduce the ultimate "Telescoping Track Bar". Our track bar will out flex any OE style bar due to the fact we use Teflon lined heim joints on both ends. Not only will it flex, this track bar will telescope within itself while off road. This telescoping track bar has proven itself time after time on the R.T.I. to provide an additional 31% wheel articulation compared to a solid track bar. To reconnect the track bar is simple, there is no re-aligning involved, just tighten the nut when you hit the highway and your Jeep® will drive and feel as it did when it was new.

Thanks,

To me it sounds like your column is off by 90 degrees, is that what you saying?  "the turn signal are a bit skrewed up...."

Or is just the wheel not in the same position?

naa.. we lifted his Jeep, and now the steering wheel if off...

My YJ has been like that for over a year now...  and being the steering wheel is not centered, the blinker kick off does not catch the 2 notches at 3 and 9.  being my wheel is already at 3:30  :rotflmao:

OOOHHHH, the blinker off part isn't working.

Got it now.

Do what everyone else is saying!  You have to lengthen your drag link.
