94 YJ just turned 100K - slight "play" in the steering wheel! Replaced the adapter (splined) for the Grant steering wheel and there is still some play - not so much turning left or right - but more so if I am holding the wheel at 9 and 3 O'clock and try to rock it..... I feel some play........ not like it is gona fall off, but definitely some play!!!! - but if I ain't trying to fix something on the heep I feel like life is out of order - anyone else have a YJ that does this - or ideas on what may be wrong - I would rather not have a steering issue....

Big,

Have you isolated where the play is coming from? Are you sure its up at the wheel? Could be the slip joint, the rag joint, the steering box, the drag link, or the tie rod.

Well, not really isolated - I assumed (yes I know the risk)  :mad02: that because when the wheel was off, and I could move the shaft side to side (not turning) but side to side that the issue was more at the column end - I will look at the rest tonight

Is it a tilt steering column set-up?  Mine loosened up quite a bit.  There are 3 bolts that get loose.  I just replace the whole column with one out of a junkyard for $75

Not tilt - and no, the whole column is not moving, it is the shaft inside the column that seems to have the play at  the end at the  steering wheel.....
