Hey been reading the postings on the board for quite sometime and decided I would post...Finally. Anyway my question to you all is this I just got a 97 TJ and I am amazed at the RPM in 5th gear on the highway. At 60mph I am at 1500 to 1800 rpm, and I get about 20 mpg and from reading the posts that is pretty damn good (and that is a much improvement from my 91 XJ that got about 14-15mpg). I just wanted to know if this is the "typical" rpm/gas mileage for a stock 97 TJ. Thank you all I have learned a whole heck of a lot from reading all the posts.

welcome to the board! i drive a 99 tj with four banger and stocl gears turning 31s I do about 2500 rpm at 60 mph and get 15 mpg no matter how I drive. hope that helps.

Hey welcome to the board

I have an 03 TJ and my mileage isn't that good at all and the RPM is low because I'mm running 33s with stock gears

With the price of gas now I sure do wish I was doing as good as you

i get 10mpg  and mine is still (almost) new

Did you swap out the speedo gear? That will through a wrench in the mathematics.

Surprisingly. After putting 33s on mine (99TJ - 6 cyl.) with stock gears. I getting 15-17mpg on average.

I drive a stock 4 banger and average 19 to 20 if I keep it around 65

I get 10-11mpg
33in tires with stk.3:07 gears and tuned for 93 octane and a cracked header

soon it will have 3:73's , will see if it changes

Ive got an stock 03 tj with a straight six. Runs about 2000 at 65 and get roughly 15-20 mpg depending where i get gas from

My xj with a 4.0 / auto gets almost 20mpg on the highway. Speedo is correct from the 32's and the 4:10 gears.
