Sylvania Silverstar headlights...

Did some reading and finally decided on a cheap way to improve my factory headlights.  The silverstars are 20 bucks a piece and are "plug and play."  I like em!  The light is a brighter white in color and not a yellow light like the factory beams.  These new lights with my "fog light/high beam override" and I can see the deer in hickville better when they try to play chicken with my Jeep at 2am!  :swear_mad:

Not a bad mod for the price and easy to do.....

Nice find Rick!

Where did you source the parts?  I've been looking for an upgrade

I just got some parts in from Quadratecc in today and will need a WrenchFest soon :wink:

I upgrades the CJ bulbs along time ago.Was kinda hard to see some nights with 2 candles stuffed in my grill. :disagree:

Ive been running h4  silverstars for about a year now with IPF housings definatly a big improvement.

Hey Frank....I bought them from Pep Boys in Manchester, last two on the shelf.  I think Auto Zone stocks them as well...

The silverstars are awesome. I had them in my CJ.
I bought the Sylvania cool blue lights for the xj before they offered the silver stars. I'll upgrade when one burns out or breaks.

Thats O.K., Franks headlights are SQUARE! :rolleyes: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

I like to call mine round with corners. :mad02:

I think if you add all the XJ's to all the YJ's in the club - it may be  a close count for square vs round  :wink:

they make the silverstar is both flavors.  :mrgreen:  and I love them.  always one of the first things I get when I end up with a new project.  I haven't had to replace one yet either so they seem to hold up pretty well.

I actually took mine out, and when back to the standard set.

I kept getting flashed by other cars as we passed,  thinking that I had my highbeams on.    That's how bright they are.

Thinking about putting them back in for tthe winter,  since the sun goes down at 4:30 and it will be dark when I get out of work.

RobTJ.....Yea....after the install I had to make sure they were adjusted propertly....not too far down the road.  My low beam is adjusted pretty low; (not too far down the road).  When I hit the high beam the focal point of the beam elevates way down the road...what I was looking for.

Also...I believe Sylvania makes replacement bulbs for the stock TJ fog lights as well but I think I've got plenty of light now.   :idea: :idea: :idea:

BTW....As you already know....on stock TJ's they dont let you use your high beams with the fogs. I was able to over ride this by placing clear tape over a prong on the fuse.  Some people bend the fuse leg but I like the tape idea better. I think this is a well known mod but if anone needs the fuse number/prong let me know.  I can check it and post later.....

If you're getting the high beam flash when you're on low beam with the Silversatrs,
you might want to check your alignment, had thwe same thing happen to me. If you
want even more output you can wire them to a relay and really get the true output..... :rotflmao:

I had them aligned.  And they were pretty low.  But I guess between the Silverstars in the headlight and replacemnt bulbs in the fog lights,  those damn Mazda Miatas were getting blinded.    :twisted:

I loved it when I got my replacement lights, they would flash me, and if they did it more than once I'd flash back...  They don't like it when you do that!  :twisted:

Here is a condensed version of the write up I used...hope it helps those who need it.   :mrgreen:

Fog Light Relay Conversion

Update: This 6-step writeup has been performed on a 2001, a 2002, 2003, and a 2004 TJ and has worked properly on all 4 year models.

If you have the factory fog lights in your TJ, you may have noticed that they will only work if your headlights are in low-beam only. To test this, while parked facing a wall at night, turn on your low-beams and your fog lights. Now switch to your high-beams. Your fog lights turned off didn't they? Well, there are situations I have run into in which I needed both high-beam and my fog lights and I couldn't do that due to this factory-flawed "bonus feature."

This is probably the easiest and least expensive mod there could possibly be for your Jeep. This entire project took only two minutes (this estimate includes opening/closing the hood), and this requires only a pair of pliers to complete the job (although you might even be able to do it with your fingers!).

* Open the hood
* Locate the main fuse box (passenger side, just forward of the battery)
* Open main fuse box
* Pull the fog light relay (the diagram in the fuse box lid should have it listed)
* While looking at the 5 pins of the relay, tape ONLY the upper left pin (Pin #1 in the FSM). Leave the other four pins alone.
* Put the relay back in place and close up the fuse box, YOU'RE DONE!

By taping and not bending the pin you can reverse this mod if needed.........
