I have an XJ rear D44 that I will be installing in my '96 XJ. I know I will need new U bolts for the swap. From research I have gained that the pinion yoke length on the D44 is longer than my 8.25, although I figure it will be fine since I have a 3" lift. Am I right? Anything else I'll need for the swap? Tips, tricks, ideas? Let me know! Any information is greatly apreaciated. Thanks in advance.

Hey get ahold of d0nnyg when you put that in, I think he needs a 8.25 rear for his xj, think the tube is bent. Bull.

You need a lock-rite in there.
Oh yeah, that is the plan. Let me know when it's out!

I just need to know what else I might need, and if this thing will actually bolt right in with my stock driveshaft.

Will do. It won't be for a few weeks though.

The complete axle is under my workbench. It would take a 1/2 hour or so to remove it. I'm just keeping together until it's sold.

Do you have a SYE or do you still have the factory slip yoke? A lift will pull the yoke out of the transfercase some, so a longer pinion length can actually help.
Try measuring from the centerline of the axle tubes to the center of the u-joint yoke on both axles to get an idea of how much you will gain. Then see if the transfercase yoke can move that much.

Factory driveshaft and slip yoke. I figured it would be fine. I'll measure it when I'm home this weekend. Thanks for the info.

I'll PM you about the lock right after this weekend, I should be ready to pick it up next weekend (the 11th or so).
