Been putting off joining for long enough. Good friend of mine, cjshloman, (aka Bull), finally talked me into it. Downloaded the application, and have been tearing my house apart looking for a damn envelope. Can't find one so I'm just gonna glue the application together and throw a stamp on it. jk. Anyway, my name is Donny. I live in New London. Been wheeling for about 6 years in a Chevy and finally made the switch to the coolest vehicle in the world. Yeah, you all know I'm talkin' about JEEP!!!! Got a 2000 XJ. 3.5" Rusty's lift. Soon to have 4.5" Rubicon Express front coils to level it. BDS lower control arms. Teraflex Next Generation disco's. 30's on AR767's. Skyjacker shocks. Rusty's trackbar and brackets. Finally got a hitch. Super Tint. Oh yeah, and lights, gotta have lights. Well, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it. Looking forward to the M+G at Devil's Hopyard next weekend. It's nice to have the M+G's closer to the East Sieeeed. Later, D

ps. 33x10.50/15 Thornbirds to be ordered next month.

Hey Donny, I'm in New London too. If you want to get together and do some wheeling shoot me a PM.

FYI... Thornbirds aren't that great of a tire. You might want to look at other options.

Hey Donny. I'm in New London too. I've probably seen your XJ around town. If you wanna get together and hit the trails let me know.

PS. I've heard that Thornbirds aren't the best tire. You might want to look at other tires.

I defy you to find a cooler looking tire. They should call them ThornBALLZ. cjshloman has been trying to talk me out of them for about six months. I'm gettin' them come hell or high water. (high water brings deep mud!!)

D

Turd-burglars..... Don't buy them Donny. #-o
They are nothing more than a street tire with large side lugs to make 'em look cool. You're gonna need a really good tow strap and a lot of good friends to pull you out of the mud with those tires. :2cents:

I have had 4 friends buy and sell ththornbirds! not good in water, aka, RAIN, mud, ice, snow, rocks, basically anything that you need them for. every single person i know hated them!! I would seriously think this over. remember function before form!

For mud I think they are outstanding.[/quote]

:smt017

DaBrode....I'm not sure what you saw that day, and i'm not debating that that particular truck on that particular mud hole didn't perform well....but it was a fluke. These are one of the worst aggresive mud tires going. Heck, they are one of the worst tires going period....Junk...J.U.N.K.....plain and simple. And thats experience talking.....not hearsay.

I thought they were called thorn-turds. Definitely the only bad tire I have ever seen interco make. The best tire I have ever wheeled are boggers they are great on rocks and mud but I am biased they have worked well for me. Not the best for the daily driver side of my rig but that really doesn't matter. You will seriously regret thorn-turds if you get them and thats a fact. :? Jeff

they are really shitty street tires made to look like they are mud tires

Boggers!!

Thornbirds look like a mud tire that they forgot to cut enough out of for the tread. I guess the thornbirds would be good in the mud if you spend like 15 hours with a tire cutter! I say, go swamper, trxus, or bogger! After you get them, let us know how those thornbirds work in the mud!

My Jeep is my only mode of transportation, (besides my Nike's). I would love to get some Boggers, but that's just not practical. I see myself wheeling a little, but nothing too gnarly. Also I am getting the 33x10.50R15's. I have had 33x12.50's on my S-10 and agree anything that wide is lousy in the rain, no matter what the brand/design. I am thinking of the Thornbirds 95% due to the looks. I understand that is probably not a very intelligent way to go about buying tires, but I also think they are pretty original. I've only seen one other XJ with them and it looked great. Plus, half the fun of wheelin' is getting stuck sometimes. I just hope I am not ostricised if I do end up with a set of the coolest looking tires in the world under my Jeep. Don't hate me for it.

Whats wrong with good ol GoodYear MTRs or Dunlop Radial Rover AT or MT. I had 31" Dunlop ATs on my CJ for years and could keep up with the big dogs on most terrain.
What do the Rubi's come stock with? MTRs? I think those look badass.

Yeah, why not buy an AT then? The BFG AT would probably suit you just find and you get a nice quiet ride and good mileage out of them. Why buy a tire that is heavy, sucks in bad weather and going to wear out quickly just because it looks good? The BFG AT comes in a 33x10.5 too.

I also liked the noise the T-birds made on cjshloman's ranger. you could hear that truck coming from a mile away. My commute just got reduced from 65 miles to 2 miles, so wear is not a great concern. The MT/R's are more money than I want to spend, and the BFG AT's are too mild. BFG Muds are my backup, but everybody has em. I'm sure for good reason. Bull is on his 4th set and will never get anything else for a street tire. He is looking for some TSL's as a trail tire.
