The rim protectors aren't all they're cracked up to be.
They just trap mud, wood, pebbles and whatever else between the rim and tire which causes them to leak.

Rant over and done.

yep... I have to clean mine every 2 wheelin trips...

but I love the traction....

Hmmm.....May I ask how you're cleaning them without the use of a tire machine to unseat the bead and then re-seat them.

I've tried deflating mine completly and using a screwdriver to clean out the tree bark between the rim and tire bead, but it aint working for me.

Still leaking to the point that I can't get em' up to street psi.

You can use a Hi-Lift to break the bead loose. I use CO2 to re-seat it, but you can also wrap a ratchet strap around the tire and use gas station air too.

Don't say things like that!!! :x I just bought a set of BFG MT's. No matter what you guys say, I think they're the greatest thing since sliced bread. Hey, what was the greatest thing BEFORE sliced bread? :D

My Firestone Destination MT's do the same thing with the bead protectors.
I have the fake bead locks on the xj, so I deflate them and use the "locking ring" to hold a board and press down on the bead to clean with air.

Using the hi-lift is a great idea Bic. 8)

I finally had to resort to using a tire machine, what a PITA.

Stop running over trees then
And I didn't run any trees over so I have no idea where the tree bark came from.
Woof woof.

You all have some real good ideas there, I like that.
Maybe it's time I got a Hi-Lift and a Co2 setup.

Hey, what was the greatest thing BEFORE sliced bread?

The internet and porn maybe, I dunno.

Hmmm, i haven't had that problem yet with the Trxus, but i remember having it often with the BFG's ;)

For my solution Joe I use a tire machine from my old work, I go there and they let me use the equipment when ever I want. I just pop both beads and clean...

As for my preference, I can only say that I have MTR's and BFG MT's and so far I like the MT's.

The best part, my 35" MT's are far less noisy then the 31" MTR's

Never had a serious beef about the amount of crap the BFG's collected in the bead, even though a lot worked its' way in there.
The thing that sucks about BFG's is the thin side walls - the things are made of tissue paper.
I sliced 3 of them befor I went to Swampers, I have treated the swampers even worse, and haven't sliced a side wall yet.

Hey Dave... those bead locks you have suck big time!! You should sell them (to me) and pick up a new set for yourself ;)

Yea you didn't run over the tree, just the gate post on the way out. I guess if you were sober you wouldn't of had to worry about it. Maybe the puddles would have been a little slower......
