Tire balancing beads?

BB's work sweet and are cheap. They also don't leak out when airing down, been using them for years!! 7 oz in a 35 12.50/15

I've had great succes with equal in my Q's. As for BB's, Banditt how have they affected you rims, wore paint?? Anything.

I would think the powder would be a problem with airing up/down in the stem or if you get moisture in the tire.

I would like to try these, I read a lot of reviews over at ROF and JU and everyone said they helped a lot.

In the unbalanced assembly, the balancing media is distributed opposite the cause of imbalance automatically to correct and balance the wheel while you drive.

In a balanced or prebalanced assembly, the media spreads out evenly. Its full potential is ready for changing conditions and variations while dampening road vibrations.[/quote]

I had the bb's in aluminum rims and steel with no problems. They don't do any damage at all. The only time they hirt the rims is basically when you stop.

You can use golf balls too if you want, they just seem to be a little loud

just a note.

I have been tring to figure these out for quite a while. and after talking to my vibrations professor and a little research I figured out that:

THEY DO NOT BALANCE THE TIRE.

they only damp the vibrations.

Jon that is correct however the second that you hit the trails and chunk a tire....viola.. out of "balance". This is why a dampening system works better for our type of tire use.

Just got the new 33s mounted with 6ozs of beads in there, no problems at normal highway speeds, haven't tried DaBrode speeds yet though.

Wouldn't dampening the vibs be what's needed. Out of balance tires are only a problem at or above certain speeds. Harmonics get out of control. No current tire balancing process balances the tires. The weights are on the wheel. The beads of whatever in the tire probably just act as dampeners too. Those balance plates would work at the same level as wheel weights. Balanceing / dampening at the wheel level. Those things are a bit overpriced. I think it was ~50 a wheel. Kind of high for an aluminum disc with either steel or lead shot in a toroidal cavity. A bag of lead shot in the amount you'd need is only ~10-20.

Alright to answer some questions.

Banditt: All I am saying is use of this stuff should not take place of getting tires balanced. that is why so many people have problems with equal and such.

A liquid should be used for the best damping, (I have talked about this in the past). problem is that finding a liquid with a reasonable density is hard. I know that they make some stuff for semi truck tires.

Beaker: Balnacing and damping are very different things. When a tire is balanced it is balanced as an assembly. same as externally balanceing an engine. Correct you can't balance the tire, but when I say this I mean the tire and rim together.

Tires can be problems at all speeds, and if they are out of balance are a problem that you may not notice. (not good for bearings and other drivetrain parts). when you reach certain speeds aroung the harmonic frequency of the system, then you get the problems.

the best bet is to get you tires balance and then use this stuff.
