I am looking at the Trxus MT's for my Rubicon to replace my MTR's, I am going bigger to a 285 / 75 /16 how comparable are they to the stock MTR's, are they as reliable, are they an aggressive tire, on and off-road how good are they, do they have deep channels to rermove mud and snow, are the tread depths the same or better than the MTR's, and any other info that would help my decision thanks guys. :D

i'd stay with the GoodYears, tehy seem to be a better all around tire... as long as you stay away from goopy mud.

I vote for the MT/R's as well. They drive really well on the street and have excellent traction in the snow and rock. For the trails we do here, they have worked really well for me. The only drawback, however, is they are going to be much more expensive than the Swampers.

It all depends on how much you drive it on road... for you Marco I would say you would fair better with MTR's

However, keep in mind how low you air down to...

The Trxus are a 6 ply side wall tire, which makes a big difference, but the material the the tire tread is made of is a softer rubber. So on highway use will be far less mileage than the MTR. I got away from the Common company MT's because they cost to much, and once you damage their 3 ply side wall. You are stuck eating the bill for a $200 tire... Check out the pics of my tires in the FS section. Those has 9000 miles on them, They were brand new, and it killed me that there was so much tread left and I had to throw them away because of a small little leak... The last leak was from going to Coy, which was not even a tough ride... It just got Rubbed the wrong way. I really did like my BFG MT's, they really were a great tire in the mud, I would make trails in the mud back when I was not locked, that many other guys that were could not. I was a huge supporter of them, until they let me down.

When I took the tire off the YJ, I felt inside and push on the side wall out... They were very soft and I could push with one finger and see the exact shape of my finger on the outside side wall. I did the same with my MTR's on the Rubi and it was a tad better, but it was still the same 3 ply polyester carcass sidewall. When I got the Trxus in, I did the same, I could barely move it... we could not even get them mounted on my 10" rims without using ether... the new tire machine would not even move the tire when we tried setting the bead with the air shot......

However, mine is not a DD so the MTR's will be better for you...

the BIG problem is the $$$$$$$$$ factor the cheapest for MTR's in a 285/75/16 is $187 from Summit racing thats almost a grand for 5 tires! I can get the Trxus for $146. I hear good stuff about the Trxus they say they are comparable to the MTR's. Unless you guys know of a cheaper place to get MTR's I don't know what to do????????????? :(

Where can I get tires mounted and balanced that do a good job in the Hartford area I also want to know if the 31" stock MTR's which are 245/75/16 would fit on a 16x8 aftermarket rim? I would sell my tires to my bro but he would need rims and I would get a 285/75/16.

Yes the stock tires will fit on the 16x8 rim becuase if i am not mistaken that is the stock size of the Rubi rim.

Give it some time and find a set of used ones on one of the boards.. that is what i did and found a pair in two weeks local and a hell of a lot cheaper than new with only 1000 miles on them.

MTRs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there is also a large price differance between the metric and standard sizes, with the standard being cheaper.

I don't have any complaints on performance of the MTR it does everything well so I guess you get what you pay for. Why do you guys think it such a great tire I am curious? :D

I would go with the trxus, if you are gonna wheel it.

the sidewalls make a huge difference.

I am comfortable with the MTR's so I will probably stick with them considering I think they perform well on any condition. Most people all say this. I like how they drive on-road snow traction, etc. Off-road they have not let me down but I here you should not air down below 12psi.

Just a note, while trxus are made by TSL they are very different than normal swampers.

not as soft a compound, so they wear great on the road. 50k miles is easy to get out of them, not sure what the MTRs get

I after having used both have not seen many differences in the on road handling. I like the trxus better in snow and ice. but the MTRs are quieter
I like the trxus better offroad becasue you can reliably air them down more.

make you choice, either way you will get a good tire

I will be running the stock Rubicon rim with the 285/75/r16 MTR's :) when I get them.
