I am having trouble getting my transmission into gear. When the Jeep is shutoff it goes into every gear fine. But running it goes into 1st gear pretty hard and sometimes not at all, reverse grinds or goes into gear pretty violently (shacks the whole Jeep). But once I get going everything seems fine. I can upshift and downshift into the gears. THe clutch engages because I can put it in gear with the engine off, hold down the clutch pedal and start it and it won't move so I know the clutch is engaging. Is the transmission going bad? Maybe the syncro's? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. The Jeep is a 1992 Wrangler with 5speed transmission. The hydrualic line going to the slave cylinder broke this weekend and I patched that with compression fittings. Could there still be air in the line? Maybe I need to bleed the system again?

When the engine is running, pump the clutch 4 times and shift into 1st or reverse. If it goes right in gear then, it might be air in the line. Also some G5 rated oil can eat away at the syncros. I'm fighting some AX15 problems myself. Syncros may be the problem...

Yeah, I think the syncro's are going but the main problem for now was air in the line. I bench bleed it, then with some help bleed it again. Everything seems fine for now but I think I will need a new tranny before too long.

Now, here's another question, when I go to swap tranny's, can I just get a 95 with an external slave cylinder and put that right in or is there some modification needed? I really don't like the internal slave setup so I want to try and avoid that.

Thanks guys!!!! Glad I know where to go when I need help!!!
