Trouble getting air tank hooked up.

Hi folks,

I need some help.

I've got the air tank all plumbed and all of the fittings but one are snug and holding air.

No matter how much teflon tape I put on this thing it keeps leaking...Is there something better than the tape that I can use to get a better seal?

I use the blue leak-lock made by highside chemicals.

I SWEAR by this stuff. I have tried all kinds of sealants over the years, and this stuff works. Keep tubes of it everywhere. If it doesn't seal with this stuff, it's broken like Pete said, or the fittings are not compatible.

What type of fittings are you having problems with? Are they steel, brass or aluminum? I had a leak problem with welding spatter on the threads in the 4WD air tank I just installed in my rig. Cleaned the treads up with a pipe thread tap, and it's good to go. :D

hey tina, any chance the fitting is cracked or maybe defective?? pete

That was my first thought also...so I tried another one and that one leaks also.
I must have damaged the threads on the steel tank. I'll try Marks idea and try the blue goo he recommended first and then re-tap the threads on the tank if that will not keep a seal.
All of the fittings are brass do you think the lead ones are better?

Try cleaning the threads first, and use the leak lock. Give me a call if you still have problems with it. I should be around this weekend to give you a hand with it. Have tons of fittings left over from my OBA install.

What compressor/tank system did you use?

Hi Mark,

Here is the set up so far.

I allready had the extremeair compressor so I added a small kilby tank to hold air pressure for the arb. The pressure switch kicks the pump off at about 130ftlbs and then off of the tank I've put a one way pressure thing from the compressor to the tank. On another fitting I put a relief valve and extra hose to fill tires. The end fitting if for the filter(oil-water seperator) and another pressure regulator to the arb and switch to the arb. The fitting for the relief valve and extra hose is the one being stubborn.

Well...I think I got all the bugs.

Jeep just wants to go...go...go..over everything :)

Here is a picture of the tank and the fittings.

Glad you got your system all done in time for the next weekend's trail run.
I just finished up my OBA install along with the ARB locker air supply. It works great. Ran a little short on time so I'll have to tie my rocker tanks in later.
