First, I apologize for the foul language

Anybody know of any tricks to keep my U-bolts tight? I realize that they are gonna loosen with off-road use, however I recently replaced the nuts and installed them with threadlocker and everything, and they loosened after only two weeks of on road driving. At this point, should I try to replace the nuts again, or go for all new U-bolts? :?

i have never had u-bolts loosen up that where not a cheap brand. And those i have had stip out before i even got to proper torque.

I would buy a good quality u-bolt and make sure the are torqued properly

Especially if you reused them... When they stretch, they will continue to loosen up. Superior spring in Hamden makes custom made ones there for cheap..

Also be sure to not over torque them, the OEM spec is incorrect, the manuals say 90 to 100 ft lbs, the correct is 60

Also when you cut the extra off, just use the die grinder to screw up the threads a little, the nuts should not move then...

i had good luck just messing up the threads on my cj. just use i hammer or a die cutter or something to mash them together so it cant walk loos on you

I have some brand new Skyjacker D35 u-bolts if ya need 'em. They don't have any washers or nuts though.

I have some stock U-bolts and nuts you can have if you need them.

Nomad, thanks for the info - I had serious issues when trying to torque mine to 95 lb/ft!

I know on the tractors I work on we always use new u-bolts for this reason once they strech they just won't stay tight. I like the jam nut idea that would probably work. I have never tryed it though. it wouldn't fly at the dealership I work at.

th ubolts stretch on purpose it is designed into them.

by streching they put a pretty high tensile load between the axle and spring plate, holding it on nice and tight. Certain motors use head bolts that do the same thing.

but once they stretch you have to replace them when youy are done.
