so i think that my transmission is starting to go, or at least first gear. i have an automatic, and lately it has been hesitating when i hit the accelerator from a stop. i can feel that the wheels are free, then i feel something click into place. the only thing i can equate it to is when your in an automatic in drive on a hill. if you are stopped and let go of he brake, you'll roll back a hair until you feel it lock into place, then you won't roll any more. this happens to me when i am going forward from a stop. any ideas? i really don't want to have to buy another tranny.

hmmmm...could be rear axle issues....

Does the tranny shift and drive fine other than what you described?

seems to, other than the fact that it takes a lot more to move on the highway cuz of my tire/gear ratio. if it is an axle issue, maybe i'll be getting those lockers/gears sooner than anticipated. :)

Disconnect the rear drive shaft from the axle (but don't pull it form the t-case). Set it aside.

Then grab the rear axle pinion and see if there is slop as you turn it back and forth. If it moves just a smidgen, not bad. If it rotates like an 1/8 of a turn, you've got an issue.

Also, pull the rear diff cover and see if there are any chunks.
