Gonna stem up my new rims just wanted some suggestions on what stems to get
Steel or standard?

Thanks

definitely rubber, and get the smalled you can, which is usually 1.5" or so long . Prevents damage from rocks and they are actually very strong, most rubber stems are brass cored inside all the way to where it goes into the rim where it switches to a solid rubber mushroom head... so they are usually fine....

I had a valvestem failure this weekend out on the trail. It was the steel type. Looked like it hit a branch or something and it pushed the o-ring out of place. I'll be switching to the standard rubber type when I replace it.

Thanks guys
Looks like short standard it is
Cheaper too

Nothing is perfect. XJMark has the short steelies and I have the short rubbers. We both got hung up on the same log. His bent and had a slow leak, mine sheared right off. Sometimes the rubber will flex and save your stem, sometimes it won't. It's a crap shoot. I've seen a couple of rims that someone tack welded a steel bushing (like in the end of a shock) around the stem opening. Great protection for either a rubber or steel stem. But first you gotta have steel rims. $0.02  .

Donny, as a rule of thumb...........dont tell people you have short rubbers. The girlies dont dig that. All I can say is that my rubbers, well, they fit a BULL !!!! Bull.

mental note... rubber stems are practically free... and if you rip one,,, just pop the bead with your high lift and put the new one in 2 seconds... then pray someone can help you reset the bead

I hope you have 2 Hi-Lift's. Just kidding. You always have a friend on the trail. Thanks again Mark.

Steve, just found these in my new 4WD Hardware rag. I'm sure they've been around a while. I am getting a set this week. I'll let you know how I make out. For only $15, I'll take the chance.

I've seen those a while ago, seems like a sweet idea. I dont know anyone that's used them though. Let us know how you like them. I may pick up a set of them when I get some new meats.

Got the new Gorilla Flush Mount Stems. Fawkin' Schweet!!! Spend the extra $2 and get a spare filler tube. They look really cool, and with my rims, there is zero chance of breaking them off. The only thing that sucks is that the filler tube doesn't have any threads on it. It's got a couple of ribs to hold an air chuck on. Now my tire deflators are useless. I'm gonna try to file the filler tube down and run a die down it to try to cut some threads. I'll put up some pics this weekend. But anyway, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
