We'll be doing Hub Bearing Assys and Front Axle U-Joints on my XJ tomorrow. I just want to make sure I have everything I need.

2- Hub Bearing Assys
2 - Spicer 5-760x U-Joints
2 - Cotter pins for the axle nuts

Do I need any other parts?

A can of anti-sieze.

Got that. Cool.

One spare U-Joint (in case we screw one up and drop bearings on the floor ) also good for a trail spare

Tools on hand:
BFH
Air hammer chisel (in case BFH doesnt work)
Air impact tools
U-joint press

other-AutoZone is 5 miles away

Want to keep your new bearing in good shape.

Torque them:

3 rear 13 mm bolts 75 ft. lbs.

Most important

Hub Bearing Center Bolt 175 ft. lbs. (36 mm socket)

A VERY BIG HAMMER and a roll of duct tape. Oh yeah and more beer.

Damon, we were going to torque the unit bearing bolts to the 75 ft lbs (we almost called you about this- didn't want to bother you) , but we were afraid we would snap the bolts (13mm head).  Draz used the breaker bar to bubba torque them though

I rented a 250 lb torque wrench to do the spindles ($80 tool for 2 min of work )

No breaker bar used... I didn't torque the hub units, I only did the calipers going back in...

I DID "Bubba Torque" KakiRubie's winch to his bumper though...  :mad02:

I forgot - It was the brake caliper bolts that had a spec of 77 lb-ft of torque per the Chilton's.  We were afraid to snap those bolts

Frank you would be correct in not going that tight,,,

here is the correct for the next time...

3) Coat caliper mounting bolts with silicone
grease. Then install and tighten bolts to 15 N·m (11
ft. lbs.).

however I never torque these...  the only really important one is the center hub nut.

Damon - thanks for the input!  The Chiltons/Hanes manual have steered me wrong in the past :swear_mad:
