Which Winch is Which?

Ok, so after the trail cut this weekend, I felt a little unprepared. Along with some other hard mods, I'm gonna be getting a winch soon (real soon). My question is what am I looking for? I have a 2000 XJ. What is the minimum size winch I should be looking at. I am thinking a 9K. Also, I need some input as far as the designs. I'm not too concerned about a remote solenoid mount. But I need to be sold on the gear setup. Worm Gear, Planetary, or 3-Stage Planetary? I am leaning towards SuperWinch, but I am open to Ramsey, Warn, and MileMarker. Wait, are MileMarker winches only hydraulic? I want electric. Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

I would look into warn and superwinch.

and not waste money on any of the others.

I like warns, but the superwinch huskys' and the epis are nice.

Warn or Superwinch, I'm sure Detour can fix you up just fine. You could save a little cash and go with the 8000lb winch, just may need to double the line with a snatch block, more often.
The MileMarker hydraulics are great if you are doing a LOT of heavy pulling, but I don't think the electrics are worth the cardboard box they came in.

I have no experience with Superwinch and haven't seen many on the trail so I have no comment on them. I have an 8K lb Ramsey that has been through hell and back and has never let me down (REP8000 -11K lb stall). Granted, it's not as fast as the Warn models, but it's a workhorse that doesn't quit. I would definitely NOT consider the Ramsey a waste of money.
Do your research and find what's best for you.

What everyone else says, Warn or Superwinch :D I have a Warn M8000...their cheapest 8000 winch but it works great.

If you ever saw a Milemarker in use on the trail you would definitely NOT buy one either, trust me

I helped someone respool the tangled line on a milemarker this weekend. I wish I had a chair and a snickers bar with me it took so long. And that was freespooling.
Go warn or Superwinch. For a few bucks more get the 9K.

I'm looking at the superwinch epi 9. mostly because I can get one from Mark, :D but the stats suggest they are faster than the comparable warn models.

It all depends on exactly what you are looking for. Shop around and check weight, line speed, and such. You may find your willing to sacrifice one good point for another.

just my 2 cents
