Winch cable question...

My shittybuilt came with 96' of 5/16" cable.  Can I go to a shorter length of thicker cable?  Like 80' of 3/8?  The 5/16 cable has a 9600lb breaking strength, and 1920lb load limit, how the fuck does this come on a 8000lb winch?  The 3/8 line I'm looking at has a 21,400 lb break strength.  Custom lengths available from aw direct.  They'll cut it right then and there.

My SuperWinch came with 125' of 5/16" cable and I swapped out with 90' of 3/8" synthetic.  It fit

I was going to stay with wire rope, due to my plans for dragging logs.  Less chance of a fray.

You should be fine with a shorter length of 3/8"  The stronger leverage is with less wrap on the drum.  AW Direct used to be local in Newington.  Do they still have a location in CT?
