I am trying to work my SOA conversion, with the axle question:

I have a AMC20 Rear and D44 Front from an 85 wagoneer.

I want to somehow connect that to my 258 w/ a T-5 tranny...by changing the xfer case.

I currently have a D300 case and thought I may be able to change it over to a NP231 to be able to use the axles.

Can anyone confirm or deny this? Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chip

I belive the 231 and the 300 are interchangeable. WIth the 231 you would should at least do an SYE. or you could get a flip kit for the d300

or look at this too

Already looked at the flip kit, $600, too pricey for what I am trying to do. Thought the 231 may be a cheaper option but as you point out, I will then have to do the SYE...more to think about.

Any ideas on cost of a 231 with SYE installed? Used of course

Chip...

My buddy is still selling that dana 300 with the flip kit installed, You can try and talk him down. hes asking for $600 right now.
The guy with the auto and 231 has not returned my phone calls, which is pissing me off as he also has a wiring harness to the motor I bought off of him.

I got an ax15 and 231 with the sye for $500 this winter, but that was a damn good deal.

Jon, thanks for the info...I was hoping that I could do something for less money...still trying to figure out how that would work.

If I use a double CV joint, would I then aleviate the need for an SYE?

You can't run a double cardan with the slip yoke in. IT will really dislike it.
