XJ lift question

I was wondering if any of you guys know at what point on an XJ you need to go with adjustable control arms.

Right now I have an RE 3.5" lift with fixed RE lower control arms and stock uppers.
I plan to add a rear 1 1/4"lift shackle and 2" coil spacer and am not sure if adjustable control arms are needed or not. :?

With the front end being the same as a TJ, I know that at about 3.5" of lift, you're going to want your caster back. At 3" and fixed arms, I'm at about 4 degrees of caster, I think 6-8 is factory (pretty sure, could be wrong). Makes a big difference in highway driveability. Steve has a lot of experience futzing with caster and pinion angle.

I would definitely drop the $ on RE adjustable uppers F&R. Getting the pinion angle just right sucks, I had to make no less than 10 rides on the creeper to get mine right.

The other aspect is ride quality. I'm a strong believer that at over 3" of TJ suspension lift, the ride starts to suck on the highway. Not sure if XJs are the same...

Same deal on the XJ's. I could get into the physics of it for about 5 paragraphs, but that's better left for a campfire and beer.

Anymore than the 3.5" lift, and you should really go to a long arm setup.

I have about a 5.5" lift with the RE superflex non-adjustable arms. I'm not too crazy about the angle of the arms, but the ride is still ok, and no driveshaft angle or caster problems that I can see.

Yeah, I have the sye on mine. The pre-96's were'nt as picky when it came to driveshaft angles as the newer ones. With a 4.5" lift mine needed the SYE, where Beaker's XJ did not. :smt017

I ask every owner of an XJ I see with a roof tire carrier if they wanna sell it. Eventually we'll find one for you and then start stock-piling them.

I'm running 4.5 rusty's with fixed lowers and stock uppers. I had a 2" bb in it for about a day. Driveshaft vibs were too much and can't afford sye right now. go for the adjustable control arms, but look around you can find them much cheaper then rubicon xpress. look at these

I have SkyJackers 8" lift and I'm not sure if it's the uppers or lowers but I believe it's one or the other that's rappin every time I hit a small bump or crack in the road. I've been asking around for those running an 8" lift to what there using? Anyone here have a suggestion?

Thx
