After much deliberation, I decided that I was going to finally bite the bullet and do the rear seat on my Cherokee. I realized I just have too much crap that I constantly haul around with all of the HVAC and plumbing side work that I do. I very quickly ran out of room and desperately needed the extra 6 inches taking out the bottom of the backseat would give me. It’s been close to 3 years since I’ve had the seat up. I also was sick and tired of cleaning diesel off the carpet in my trunk.
I looked around at a bunch of different forum posts, and got the idea on how to do mine. Since I’m lucky enough to have two cars, taking out the backseat wouldn’t be an issue for me.
I also wanted to make sure that I could still take advantage of the storage underneath the backseat, as well as behind the driver and passenger seat, so I made sure to put in doors so that I could still access that storage.
I also wanted to make sure that if I need to move this over to a new XJ it’s not permanently mounted. It’s only got 4 screw going into the body.
It’s not done yet, but I am very happy with the progress that I made tonight. It’s definitely not perfect, but it’s quality you can get used to at an affordable price.
I’m still going back and forth trying to find a suitable flooring material that’s not going to break the bank. I’m trying to do this as cost-effective as I can.
