My buddy is installing Rusty's 6.5" short arm kit on his Rig and he said after installing the rear leaf packs and lowering the Jeep to the ground that the Shackles are completely compressed and pointing towards the front of the truck rather then hanging straight down towards the ground.

Anyone have an idea what he did wrong :?

sounds like the leaves are to short... the shackles should actually be slanting twards the rear... That is the natural position,,, if they are forward then the leaves are to short...

lastly, the only other XJ lift I did, had springs that could only go in one way... the center bolt was closer to the front making the axle closer to one end...

measure the length and call Rusty... probably sent you YJ springs, (because we all know they are better  )

Do you guys think it could be the shackle is just flipped up? Just need a little coaxing into the right position. Those leafs have quite a bit of curve to them.

i have rusty's 4.5" kit and had to wrestle the with the packs to get them in.

rusty's will just tell you need new shackle's or have someone to compress the spring with a jack while you line them up.

as for rusty's customer service, i have always talked with him directly and i have even left my number and he's called me back if he wasn't there or was busy.

he's a real nice guy, he even gave me a pretty nice discount on my setup and sent me a free replacement part that was installed wrong by me, no questions asked.

Probably a stupid question or comment but did you tighten the shackle bolts before you let the vehicle down, you need the wight of the truck on the springs before you tighten everything down, just a thought. Good Luck

ever hear of shackle kick-back?? i have only dealt with coils ever since I started wheeling and I know what kick-back is. the shackle can only swing so far forward until it goes from compression-style to tension-style stresses. I learned these things from an old issue of 4-wheeler. I would explain more but i'm drunkish.
