XJ tranny knock

hey a buddy o mine has a 89 Cherokee, hes heard a knocking noise under the floor near the bell of the tranny, he parked the vehicle for a while and the noise hasn't returned as of yet. i was thinking something with the tranny mounts but he said at times being in neutral it would get worse so i have no clue as to what it could be, any of you guys experience this? -matt

You didn't say if it's an auto or manual. But since you said the noise is in neutral, I'd say it's a manual with the clutch throw-out bearing going bad or he forgot to feed the squirrels under the hood.

i was thinking he ran somebody over and eventually hte person died and couldn't knock anymore. :wink:

lol no its an auto sorry bout that, yea it was just weird hes not sweating it course its stopped recently
