Looking for assistance

Hi everyone, Long post - sorry.

This post isn't meant to send an "oh me oh my" vibe or to look for sympathy, but Christy and I have been hit with some really unbelievable issues these past couple of years, which is just one more reason no one in the club has seen much of me.

Last December, as a member of the 1st Company Governor's Horse Guard, I was kicked by one of the horses resulting in three tendons torn from my right arm. After not really being able to use my arm at all, I decided to have surgery to get the rotator cuff back in working order if I ever expected a halfway normal arm again. The pain was unbearable too.
Fast forward a bit and I had to have a second surgery three weeks ago because the first one didn't go so well - I needed the bicep reattached - again. I'm now looking at 12 months of physical therapy on top of all this.
So that's the sob story in a nutshell.

The reason I'm telling you this is because for the past two years, my Jeep has been having issues with timing despite multiple distributors, and cam and crank position sensors. Keep in mind this is a motor with under 5K and it was running flawlessly for five years, doing trails all over VT and New Hampshire. I simply can't trust it in the woods until I have a definitive fix for the stalling and dying issue. So it's sitting here doing nothing.

To top it off, while working under the Jeep, I found some rot that I do not have the welding talent to repair. And now with this injury, I cannot work on the truck at all.

What I'm looking for is a referral to someone who can do the welding repair because if I can't get the rot fixed, this Jeep isn't worth putting another dime into no matter what is wrong with it. I'm one of those guys that never asks for help - but this time I have no choice. I really don't want to get rid of this Jeep because it suits my needs for what I use it for. I figured I'd reach out here first to see if anyone is interested in a side job or knows anyone who is.

I had the Jeep checked out by a garage, known for welding, in Middlefield last week and he thinks it's repairable and recommended 1/8 in steel plating welding to the subframe. He no longer welds, however, as he officially retired.
Any guidance on this will be greatly appreciated.

Without seeing it in person, just from the pictures I believe its very fixable. the real question is how far does the rot really go. If I had to guess the lower control arm mount can be saved but a new piece will have to be fabricated for the inside of the unibody. Then the crossmember will need to have a new piece bent up to fit over the original, weld to all sides and then welded to the inside part of the unibody.

What's your budget? What's the timeframe? What does the opposite side look like ?

My buddy is the welder for Westchester County and does side work, PM me and I can send you his contact info.  He's in Bridgeport

To answer all questions:

1. The other side looks fine at the moment. We took a hammer to the entire underside and I was told it looks okay. It's no longer driven in winter so the salt shouldn't be an issue going forward. I believe this was partially my doing. The condensate from the A/C drains here and I fabricated that crossmember piece and welded it in when I did the restoration years ago. I think the water was trapped in there and I missed it. I probably should have rerouted the condensate or created a better drainage hole. Logan steel is willing to cut me the 1/8 inch plate pieces if I get them templates.

2. My timeframe is whatever works for whoever can help me out. I'm not fussy about the timeframe. I can't trail it like this, or at least I don't think I should, and summer is over and camping season is a no go for me this year anyway.

3. The budget is one of those deals where I'd need to get a quote and weigh my options. There is a point where even my most beloved ZJ is going to have to go if the cost pisses off the wife. If I can get this repaired, I still need axles, new springs and a tranny rebuild - so there is going to be a tipping point price-wise. Next year if my arm heals right, I can do the other repairs. But I'm afraid to screw up the floor and the frame if I weld this myself next year. So I'd love to have a professional do weld it.

Thanks for your replies. Let me know if your friends want me to bring the ZJ in for a look.

Sorry to hear about your run of bad luck Ron. As the others said, it's definitely fixable, and in my opinion, definitely worth fixing. As far as the running probes, Jeremy recommended a former Jeep Tech that worked on JohnyPro's Jeep. The guy was super thorough from what I understand.

Chuck was awesome, but you need to have almost no timeline! He has a lot of juggling going on. He gets everything to factory spec for sure though!

I'll take it! I have no time line. The ZJ get put away for the winter as soon as they salt the roads - so I don't need the truck.

Is Chuck's number in one of the posts - did I miss it? Or is Jeremy talking about someone else?
Pretty sure I never posted his number, I can PM it to you though.
