Project Ten Ton

Made good progress today with the skid plate. I came up with a plan and started working on it. So far so good

Struts were delivered today! Total price on those was a bit less than they initially quoted. I’m really glad I continued with the rebuilds. Ended up being shipping and all approximately $1600. That includes the $184 I paid to send it plus the $154 it cost to send it back. I’ll put them on tomorrow and take it out onto my trails in the backyard to see how it does. And yes I have some good trails growing back there. In fact I’m working on building a rock garden right now…

First shake down run on my land yesterday went awesome. It did everything without issues. Incredible!

Did they recharge them with helium?

No lol they came with the correct oil in it but I put nitrogen in the upper and lower chambers based on a conversation I had with Kirk at Jensen which is ORI.

I had nine codes on the computer yesterday. I replaced the knock sensors cleaned the camshaft sensors sprayed out the throttle body and other than a little bad Gas she’s running beautiful with no codes at this time. I’m gonna get some high test fuel after wheeling it all weekend on my property and hopefully the little bit of sputtering that I’ve been having will go away. My knock sensors were not in good shape even though they were brand new they came out in four pieces. This thing has fought me every step of the way but I’m winning !

lol.  Surprising what a commercial account can save

And the saga is continuing. The pains of building…. Lynsey and I went on another shake down run yesterday on our property and we have been having engine stumbling when on extreme angles. We were doing great after replacing the knock sensors until we were almost at the bottom of the mountain and the stumbling came back bad and it died and wouldn’t restart. We went back up and got the Jk. She performed awesome and we were able to recover the Scrambler after hours of winching until the scrambler was level. In the process I blew up the warn winch but I will be able to fix it. So to the issue… bad fuel system setup. The pump and tank that I have are great but need a surge tank to prevent fuel starvation. I purchased one plus a low pressure pump and will reconfigure everything Wednesday when I get home from NY. Almost there with the final setup…. At least for this season. Other than this issue it wheels amazingly. It clears stuff my jk dreams of climbing. I’m also getting comfortable behind the wheel. It’s a beast!

Today was so productive. The fuel system was not setup in a way that the scrambler was happy with when facing up or down at extreme angles. The motor was starving for fuel and if I didn’t get it level fast enough it would stall and not restart until level. Obviously this is no good for crawling. I purchased a second low pressure fuel pump and a racetronics fuel swirl pot. I had to redesign the entire system but finished…. I added 2 more relays and a dedicated power line. I used the original power line and relay as the trigger. I’m going to clean up all the wires if I have time tomorrow but can run it the way it is if needed. I’m going to add a pressurized coolant overflow between the reservoir and radiator to solve an issue where coolant escapes but doesn’t suction back to the radiator. I am also going to rebuild the clutch assembly on the winch. After that I am ready for my last shake down before taking it out for its inaugural run with others. I’m learning so much from this experience! Unreal how much work is involved.
