EV Vehicle Fires

I heard they halted Wrangler production. They can't sell what they've already built if the story is true.
I've been to three dealerships this summer and they all have row upon row of Wranglers just sitting.
Does anyone REALLY want an EV rig? Just wondering. I know it's not for me.

EV rig? probably not. However, most aren't looking at newer jeeps as rigs, they just see an SUV you can take the top and doors off of.

EV's in general?         Don't get me started...
Let’s see…?
-It’s politically mandated.
-We can’t produce lithium fast enough so everyone can own their own government mandated fire hazard.
-There is no “real plan” for waste battery disposal.
(if it’s so good for the environment why not just burry them? I’m mean we do that with reactor waste anyways.)
-They’re way expensive.
-They're way heavier.
-It’s an added expense for the ability to charge it at home.
-They don’t go as far per refill.
-There aren’t many places TO refill.
-You can’t safely park it in your garage or even near your own home.
-Everyone knows the incentives to buy one now, will eventually be replaced with multiple taxes.

…if any of the above statements seem like a positive, kindly move back to California.

I drove my first Tesla when I was in Charlotte. I get all the negatives, but I have to say, it was a hoot to drive. This was the cheap single motor rental version, but it still went like a bat out of hell.

Don't buy one, but I absolutely recommend renting one.

Hertz requires that you bring it back with at least 20% power. You'll receive it with 20% or more. My buddy got his with 60% and didn't have to charge it during the rental.

I don’t know what Stellantis is doing. Nobody wants their vehicles yet they aren’t doing any deals. I’d lease a 4xe for a daily if it was cheap enough.

I have a new Grand Cherokee 4xe in the shop for new badges and a black grill.  When Papa's brought it here they said the had to jump it on the lot.  Well now it is completely dead.  Needs another battery just to start it and it dies if you take the jumper cables off.  oh yea and its $76,000.00

It's wild that the grand cherokee electric mode also only has a range of 26 miles. I consider my 20 mile commute up RT 15 to be short but even with that it'd be a terrible commuter. Idk why people think it's worth the buy or how stellantis thought it was worth making

I do not consider 26 miles of range an acceptable amount for the complexity needed to make that happen.  That's less than I would consider an acceptable reserve range in an ICE vehicle.  For my daily that's about 3/4 of a gallon of fuel.  I have a 35 mile commute each way.  There is no benefit for me for that vehicle over other options.  Aside from the fact that it costs a couple of times more than I will probably ever pay for a vehicle in my lifetime.

You could charge a Hazzard fee just for having to store the freakin' thing overnight.
I park it out in the street!  lol

Welp, my ignorance on this one has led me astray. I was ignoring the ever important hybrid part as these vehicles also have the ability to run combined to achieve better mileage. The 4xe claims to get 49 mpg for the wrangler and 56 mpg for the Grand Cherokee when using both gas and electric together. A 2024 prius claims to get 57 mpg runnning hybrid.

Top gear has a list of the top electric only range of plug in hybrids. Of course anything getting decent range (60 miles or more) is close to or over 100k. The best electric only range tops out at 93 miles on the Polestar 1, which only claims an mpg of 58 mpg.

https://www.topgear.com/car-news/list/these-are-top-12-hybrids-order-electric-range

just a fun fact but a 2024 prius has a starting msrp of 27k which isnt too crazy of a price considering the 2014 model had an msrp of 23k.

I guess I'm switching my thoughts on these being bad commuter cars.

I'm only reading into this quick here so i don't know where this is coming from but from what i can find:

2024 Wrangler 3.6 liter gas has a range of 402 miles with a 17.5 gal tank.

2024 Wrangler 4xe has a range of 370 miles when using hybrid mode with a 17.2 gallon fuel tank.

If anyone cares to read, one person did some detailed tracking of their fuel/electric consumption. They claim to have gone well over the 21 mile range for electric only but are saying they are running in hybrid so they are just going by what the display/computer is stating they are traveling using electric only. Along with fuel mileage they also mention the fun driving abilities of an electric car like Rey had mentioned about the tesla.

All the 4xe are all 4 cylinder turbo. seeing this huge grand cherokee with a 4 cylinder just looks goofy when you pop the hood

Is there any mention of what it gets for gas mileage when the battery in dead? (Non-Hybrid mode  / gasoline only)
Say it's winter, a cold day, you have the Electric heater cranking and go for a long ride and the battery power is now null and void.
Now the 4 pop has to haul the fat ass battery pack around as well.

The internet says they claim 20 mpg combined city/highway. The internet says the 3.6 gets 17 city, 25 highway.

The curb weight is a difference of 1,100 pounds.

Buy a chevy volt, think about 50-60 miles  electric only

Runs on electric until it dies then the ice kicks in and will keep going as long as you put gas in it until you can recharge
again.

The ice is basically a big battery charger

The chevy volt claims 40+ mpg for city and highway on gas only. Not bad if you aren't going the hybrid route.
