No tax for trailers

I haven't paid property tax on any vehicles or trailers in over a decade!
Decent, but I'm sure they get their nut in other ways. Property tax is just one method of spreading the hurt. Moving to somewhere that requires less taxes overall is the goal but not always ideal.

No place is perfect, but living in a broke state is expensive. My power is part of a coop. A fraction of what we pay for the Shelton house. Taxes are lower but limited amenities living rural. We also live in a county dependent on Tourism. We have a terrific school district. We get tax breaks for running a farm by leasing our land. We have two more credits to apply for once the bee apiary is established and Orchard is started. Roughly $600 additional reduction. Our annual taxes are roughly 30% less than Shelton that has cheaper tax than surrounding towns.

Wish I came here 20 years ago.

Don’t come here wanting things you have there…

From my understanding boat trailers are exempt also, this is to attempt to prevent people from registering out of state.

I guess it's ultimately up to your tax assesor to determine what they want to exempt. Per my past posts, Derby chose to only exempt smaller utility trailers under a certain weight. Some towns are a bit more lax with it.

AI says:

Connecticut trailer tax laws require a 6.35% sales tax on most trailers, reduced to 2.99% for boat trailers. As of October 1, 2024, residential utility trailers are exempt from local property taxes, but commercial and camper trailers remain taxable. Property taxes are assessed annually by municipalities based on depreciated value.
