New guy from Western MA

I was searching for shops in CT and your forum popped up.  Seems like a cool place.  I bought my CJ in April last year and I haven't been able to stop messing with it since then.  It is a 1984 CJ that I picked up crazy cheap.

It looked like this when I bought it:

After a bunch of body work, paint, tires, new carb, seats, rhino lined interior, etc.  Here it is now:

Swapping my axles out in the next few weeks to ones with 4.10 gearing.  It has 2.73s now, and they are pretty crappy with the 31s.  Dana 30 w/ truetrac and AMC 20 w/ trac loc.  Those are the axles going in with the better gearing.  33 inch MTRs and a 4 inch skyjacker lift will be going on at the same time.

I am in the Springfield Area and get out in the woods when I can.

Really clean CJ! Welcome!  4.10s will be a huge improvement and should be good up to 33's for you...

I was thinking of going with 35s, but it just wouldn't be worth it for me.  I didn't want to get a shackle lift or BL just to clear tires.  I hope 4.10 with 33s match up well.  I am running a T-176 w/ 258 I-6 and my jeep was dying trying to deal with just the 31s due to the 2.73s.  I was looking at getting either KM2 or MTRs, but the pricing on the MTRs are too good to pass up right now.  Goodyear is running rebates till May and I am getting 160 bucks off instantly just from using their card.  Not bad.

not mine but it is 4:10

That one axle is 600 bucks more than I paid for the whole jeep, hahaha.  Nice, but that is way more than I would ever need.  Really wide too.  I think my dana 30 is 56 inches wide.  That is 63 inches.

Thanks for all the compliments fellas.  I can't wait to get my lift project done so I can really drive and enjoy the jeep again.

What did it have for gearing?  When I was calling around to places looking for a D44 they were getting a lot of money.  I found sets out of a Scout easy enough, but I wanted a Jeep one to avoid having to shorten it.  When I priced out how much a regear was going to be I decided to just find a set that was already done.  Bought my 4.10 set for 500 bucks.  I couldn't touch a D44, even with 2.73s, for that.  Collins Bro. wanted like 1200 bucks for theirs, haha.  But, they are ridiculous.

you find another deal like that jeep, let me know ill give ya a finders fee if it works out

I will definitely let you know.  I just lucked out.  They guy needed the space and just wanted it gone.  I got those half blue (at the time) doors, a spare T4 transmission, a complete set of 3.31 axles with wheels, and a bunch of other stuff, like a spare roll bar.  He just wanted all the crap gone and I was in the right place at the right time.  He tossed in all the parts for nothing.  I actually gave him 1500 just because of everything, but I sold some parts fast which put me at the 1k mark.

The one I sold to Justin was a 88 XJ D44 rear with stock gearing (I think 3.73)  I'm sure CJ D44's are much harder to find

A friend of mine is gong to be selling a sweet set of narrowed and locked dana 60's. It's gonna be several bills but if the tax guy is good to ya let me know
