I might have posted about this before, but today was the last straw, or socket as is the case. I’ve had reasonably good luck with cheap tools for the most part.  I had an inexpensive mechanics tool set I got years ago from Amazon that has ridden around in the Jeep for probably 8 years and was my go to set.  Still is since it turned into a garage set this summer after the clamshell case fell apart.  The same kit was no longer available, so this fall I ordered a different equivalent.  Worst set ever.  None of the sockets or extensions stay together, which can be maddening working in tight quarters when sockets keep falling off.  To add insult to that, I’ve now broken the third socket.  I barely put any force in the 13mm this morning before it split. There is almost no metal where the socket is cut, and they are all like that.  Almost worse than useless since they are taking up the space of good tools, and guaranteed to break when you  need them on the side of the road.  Next set will be higher quality.

Harbor Freight, all day. Almost as good as the legit brands, and lifetime warranty on all hand tools, sockets, etc. Just not power tools for the lifetime warranty.

Yep, I’ve had very few issues with their stuff, and the majority of my stuff came from there.

Or you got really, REALLY strong since the last time you worked on something

I'm trying to remember, but I don't think I've ever broken a HF socket!  And I use all standard sockets on my impact gun (the rainbow colored ones).  Rumor has it that if I do ever break one, they will replace it for free.

I’ve been impressed so far with the few Icon things I have. Also, Bahco is Snap-on but sold in Europe for 1/4 the price. I’ve even heard that the truck will fix them.

I've had good luck with Home Depot/Husky. I've only bought some one offs, but I've seen some good sales for full sets.

Chinesuim stuff sucks when some strength id required, I have had the same set of craftsman sockets and wrenches for over 40 years and except for a couple of worn out sockets and ratchets it's still doing well

My original socket and wrench sets were Craftsman, probably 30 plus years old at this point.  I've broken a couple sockets and a bunch of ratchets over the years.  Ratchets and screw drivers are getting to be a pain to replace when they brake.  Unless the store has the exact same piece they don't want to exchange it.  They don't make the old style ratchets I have any more.  I went to Lowes multiple times trying to exchange it, and the only ratchet they would swap out was the cheapest one they had,  and it was out of stock for a few weeks.

I've bought a lot of stuff at HF.  Some is crap and some has been good.  I have never had a problem returning anything, even if it is out of the warranty period.  It really depends who you get behind the counter.  Some people don't even look in the box to see if it is really broken.  I've seen their stuff get better over time.

x2: My tools contain my original craftsman toolbox and tools I got for Christmas when I was 12. In fact the toolbox is in the YJ...
