Water your ac Unit.

It's getting hot out, which means your ac unit is getting hot. And if yours is like mine, it's 29 years old and is holding on for dear life. So get out there and water it down. The HVAC folks can correct me if I'm wrong but my HVAC buddy always tells me to cool mine off to better help it's performance. Totaly ignoring him its been running just fine. Until tonight I came home to the AC not running. The fan motor was wicked hot. I replaced the capacitor and tried spinning the fan by hand but that didn't do anything. So my friend suggested I just try cooling it down and by God that worked. So now I gotta set up a drip line for it this week since this weather is gonna be awful.

It works, waste a ton of water and usually helps kill the fan.

There used to be kits out there with mist jets and sail switch so when the fan turned on the water would flow. Definitely helps with an undersized system in high ambient situation

My unit is so far keeping up, but it was running at 5 am this morning when I got up… which means it’s already too hot out.

I just replaced the fan like 3 years ago. I'm pretty sure thats the only time work has been done on the unit that I've ever seen. So, hoping its not shitting the bed already.

you all might want to hold tight for a bit.  they just phased out 410 and brought in some new refrigerants and they aint working out so well.

Yeah, i haven't been hearing the best of things. I'll be hanging on as long as I can

If you need REALLY old stuff - I think I still have a case of R12 cans at my parents house from when I was a teen  :rotflmao:

Our old large window unit handles our  downstairs and it’s kept up the last few days.  Whenever it dies I have an even older functional replacement stashed away. Money in the bank.

Since the AC isn't running today I took the cover and fan out of it and cleaned out the leaves and other crap in the bottom of it and then sprayed the coils with the spray they sell to clean them out and then hosed it down, looks good again

Took the panel cover off the electrical connections and found a dead mouse near the capacitor pins, he didn't look so happy

Pincher bug got in my contacts last year and burnt them up... I was of course at the firehouse, and had just replaced the capacitor the week before, so I told the old lady to call in the pros.(thinking maybe I messed it up, or something bigger was wrong) He did have to adjust or reset the EEV valve, so I guess it was worth it.
