Thermal Arc Fabricator 251 Mig Welder

No personal experience, but people like them.

It's a big old machine like my Miller so I'm guessing it's going to have a really good duty cycle and some ass behind it if you need to go Thermonuclear. I love my Miller and it was a HUGE step up from the little HF one I used before.

If the price is right (and you can still gets parts) I'd say go for it.

There’s a 35 too but that blue paint is more attractive to people. Keeping an eye on both

There's a 35 in East Berlin for $200 I bet can be had for $100-150 standing there with cash...

I through a $200 max bid on this. Looks wicked clean, has gun, regulator and a spool of wire. Will go look at it tomorrow before bidding is over. It’s up the road from me across the street from Shady Maple. If I pay cash the auction only charges 10%

I converted the gun on mine to a Tweako Clone. Guy out of TX sells a retro kit that goes in with minor mods and puts the solenoid in the chassis instead of being internal to the gun.

What’s the benefit to have a spool external on the gun rather than internally fed? Noob here, who is just learning welding basics…

Spool gun is for welding aluminum with a mig

They have a bidding frenzy today. Auction started at 4am with truckloads of new name brand tools. They are handing out free food and drinks. People are over bidding like crazy. 35 sold for $500. Someone paid $1800 for a ‘90s snap-on mig!

I generally shy away from public auctions. Most people can't control themselves. Think I'm spoiled from going to dealer auctions back in the day. Every car dealer instinctively knew where they needed to be for profit. Much more controlled and reserved. That 35 unless upgraded was a $200 machine. Especially given you couldn't test it first. Better deals on MP.

Yeah usually it’s just “pros” at these auctions. It was clean but I feel exactly the same not paying over 200 for a machine that I’m just taking their word for it
