What did you do to your Jeep today?

So when you trust labels and don't pay close attention to the liquid color, you mix red Mopar coolant with yellow coolant to make gel. Coolant top off turned into an involuntary coolant flush. Decided to leave the chemical cleaner and distilled water in for a couple days and drive to work (25 miles each way). Should be cool enough... only 80 tomorrow, and 60s mid to late week. Flush that out, reflush with more distilled water and then pour in new yellow coolant. Zyrtec Yellow for Jeep per manufacturer recommendations.

I'm a firm believer in converting everything to the normal green stuff and if needed put a dose of sca additive if it's a diesel.

Mopar coolant sucks, dexcool is the devil, there is no reason for all the different types. You want something with good corrosion protection and good freeze protection let's not reinvent the wheel

Wow, I didn't realize that would do that! I did my radiator last year and I used Zerex G05 is a Hybrid Organic Acid Technology (HOAT) antifreeze. I have no idea what I could mix that with.

Like colors go together. Yellow and green are ok to cross, apparently similar chemicals. Orange, red, blue do NOT mix with yellow or green though apparently. The things you learn…

so it's safe to switch from one cooland type to another so long as you completly flush the system?

You should use the factory recommended coolant because it will corrode internal parts depending on the the type. I screwed up and added the wrong coolant to top off yellow/green that was down to mid radiator. I didn’t see the yellow/green color until the coolant level rose and it was a swirling mix like cream in coffee and I thought, “shit” and went to go buy distilled water, the correct coolant and radiator chemical cleaner.

Chemical flush, drove the jeep to work ~50 miles drive with chem cleaner and distilled water. Emptied and flushed with distilled water 2 more times. Then filled with Zerex G05, per manufacturer’s recommendations. Burping the system now. Heat on full blast and watching my new fancy funnel.

Started the TJ spring bucket repair today. Not much was left of the stock ones (damn calcium chloride!)
